"The vulture and the little girl" also known as "Struggling girl" is a famous photograph by Kevin Carter. The photograph was taken in Sudan in 1993. The picture shows a famine stricken boy who was initially believed to be a girl trying to reach a United Nations feeding center. The photograph won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography award in 1994.

Steve McCurry is an American photographer, freelancer and photojournalist. His most famous photo is of the "Afghan Girl". McCurry is the recipient of numerous awards, including Magazine Photographer of the Year, awarded by the National Press Photographers Association; the Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal; and two first-place prizes in the World Press Photo contest (1985 and 1992).

Afghan Girl is a 1984 photographic portrait of Sharbat Gula, also known as Sharbat Bibi, by journalist Steve McCurry. It appeared on the June 1985 cover of National Geographic. The image is of an adolescent girl with green eyes in a red headscarf looking intensely at the camera. The identity of the photo's subject was not initially known, but in early 2002, she was identified as Sharbat Gula. She was an Afghan child who was living in the Nasir Bagh refugee camp in Pakistan during the time of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan when she was photographed.
