Jam-Packed Bharatpur Birding – 66 Species in 3 Days 🦩

3 members. 3 days. One focused plan.

Late night flight to Delhi. Early train to Bharatpur. By 7 AM we were inside the park town and straight into a recce session. We checked water levels, light direction, bird movement, and habitat zones before locking our main shoots.

Day one was steady. Active ducks. Moving marsh. Enough to understand the terrain.

Day two opened up. We hired a full-day EV and worked with senior guide Mr. Randhir Singh, who has assisted Dr. Salim Ali during tagging work in the park. His inputs on nesting, feeding routes, and seasonal shifts changed how we approached every sighting.

Total: 66 species.

Waterbirds: Sarus Crane, Painted Stork, Bar-headed Goose, Northern Pintail, Black-necked Stork, Purple Heron and many more.
Raptors: Crested Serpent Eagle, Western Marsh Harrier, Spotted Owlet, Indian Scops Owl, Dusky Eagle Owl.
Kingfishers, Peafowl, Parakeets, Bushchats, Starlings, Sunbirds and more filled the list.
Plus Rock Python, Softshell Turtle, Spotted Deer, Wild Boar.

Field Reality

Distance control was hard. Birds stayed far. Action bursts were sudden. Heat shimmer reduced sharpness. Reeds blocked frames. Wetlands demand patience and smart positioning.

We came back with images — and stronger field understanding.

On the return, we stopped at Agra. Foggy dawn across the Yamuna gave us a soft, muted Taj frame. Short window. Worth it.

Next Bharatpur tour will expand beyond the main park into nearby wetlands and grasslands for more habitat and diversity.

This was not just a tour. It refined our approach.

🇮🇳 Republic Day Greetings from Andaman 🇮🇳

On 26th January 2026, as the nation celebrated Republic Day,
we stood on sacred ground in the Andamans.

Yesterday, at Flag Point, the Tricolour rose with pride. At Cellular Jail (Kaala Pani), silence spoke louder than words. The Light and Sound Show reminded us of courage, pain, and sacrifice.

This day felt deeper here.
Where freedom was once denied.
Where bravery never gave up.

As we explore these islands, we bow in respect to the martyrs and freedom fighters who gave us the right to live free and proud.

*Wishing our Talking Pixels community and everyone a Happy Republic Day.*

May we always remember the past, protect the present, and build a stronger India together. 🇮🇳

IMAGINARY ALPHABETS

As kids, we learned our letters with paper, pencils, and wide eyes. Each of us wrote them in our own style. Some neat. Some shaky. Some bold. But it was always fun. Each letter felt like a small win.

Couple of weeks back, we visited Charminar, the same joy came back. But this time, the streets were our notebook, and the camera was our pencil. We looked for alphabets hidden in everyday shapes. A window that looked like an A. A railing shaped like an H. A street corner forming a K. Spotting them was tough at times, but the hunt felt great.

I set one rule for myself. Capture the alphabet as it is. No tilt. No flip. No twist. If it looked like a letter, it had to look that way in real life. That made the game even more fun. I also tried to go beyond the plain alphabet look. I wanted each frame to feel fresh.

I managed to find 19 letters. Each one felt like finding a small piece of childhood again. It showed me that learning never ends. We just change the tools.

Exploring alphabets in the streets gave the same joy as writing them for the first time. Simple, playful, and very satisfying.

Vrihat Samrat Yantra – The World’s Largest Sundial!

Standing tall at 27 meters (89 feet), this giant sundial at Jantar Mantar, Jaipur, is an astronomical marvel. Built in the 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, it can measure time with an accuracy of just 2 seconds! Its shadow moves at a speed of 1 mm per second, making it a stunning blend of science, history, and engineering.

The Samrat Yantra, sometimes called “Supreme Instrument” is an equinoctial sundial of enormous proportion. Although one of the simpler instruments, and not too different from sundials which had been developed hundreds of years earlier, the Samrat Yantra is important because it measures time to a precision that had never before been achieved. The Samrat Yantra at Jaipur, for example, is capable of measuring time to an accuracy of two seconds.

The essential parts of the Samrat Yantra are the gnomon, a triangular wall with its hypotenuse parallel to earth’s axis, and a pair of quadrants on either side, lying parallel to the plane of the equator. On a clear day, as the sun passes from east to west, the shadow of the gnomon falls on the scale of the quadrant, indicating local time. Since a sundial gives the exact time for its particular locality only, a formula to obtain standard time is used that compensates for the longitude difference between the instrument location and its time zone, and the daily adjustment that must be made due to the earth’s orbit around the sun.

Wings of wonder, colors in flight—where grace meets freedom.
Indian Peafowl (Pavo Cristatus), Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary, Karnataka, Jan 2024

An unmistakable, large ground bird. The unmistakable iridescent blue male spreads out its ornamental upper tail feathers when courting females. Females have a shorter tail, an iridescent green neck, and browner plumage. Found in forest, forest edge, and agricultural land. Often seen on paths or alertly feeding in the undergrowth. Can be fairly confiding especially when found close to human habitation. Its loud screaming “may-yow” calls are heard incessantly during the rainy season.
