Day #3
Set Multiple Alarms to woke up in early Morning to catch the Train to Ella (this Station) from Kandy. After checkout took a local Bus to Train Station, it's 15LKR from Kandy City Hotel to the Junction, from there it's 300 mts walk. Reached Station by 6:30 AM and have to wait till 07:30 to get the 2Class tickets issued. Here 60 mins before departure they issue tickets. Without Tickets we cannot able to enter into station as well so I've been standing in the Queue Line as Backpackers started pouring to the station to make this famous train Journey. Got the Ticket for 240LKR and showed the ticket at the Entry to the station. They punched it and I made an entry finally. Tested my backpacks and awaited to embark the board the train. The train came after a long wait on the platform, it's completely Packed and somehow I made it to get a place on Foot Board. I've been standing with my Bags for couple of hours, the journey is not smooth as I thought it's completely like a turbalance of jerks and all, after enrouted few stations got some place to unload my bags and to keep it on the floor till that time I was like sandwiched between bags in front and Back. The train moving at a slow pace of around 5 to 25 KM speed like a Snake, many tunnels and small small Stations passed.
The views of the valleys were awesome. In middle TC came and Punched the tickets. After 7 hours of standing journey I've reached this station. I need to handover my ticket at the Exit. This is a quite small town with chilling climate and tea gardens spread across.
IMO this place is costlier interms of Colombo or Kandy In Food and TukTuk. A Normal Tea would cost 250LKR, that's Damn expensive in a place where tree garden or factories is not more then a KMS away.
TIP : Sit or Stand right side of the train if you travel to Ella from Kandy and Left side of the train if you travel to Kandy from Ella for awesome Valley Views.
