Rufous-Necked Hornbill (Pair)

Hornbills..I just love watching them...And watching them at this time of the season when they start their nesting activity and involve in courtship display was the primary target of the trip.
I kept watching their activity for 6+ hours on Day 1 of my recent trip.
This was one of my favorite images of the pair with both their heads in a typical symmetry w.r.t. their beak position...the colors of their plumes on the head....those blue orbital eye skin around eye, the scarlet gular pouch...Seriously this is one wonderful creation among Birds....

Blue-faced Malkoha - with Praying Mantis kill :)

When me and Ritesh decided to visit Kavdi, we were just hopping for our wintering waders and ducks to be there and the waste on the bridge to be cleared, so that we can walk onto the other side and it all was set when we finally reached there. However, due to some local festival at the village there was some gathering with loud music and occasional crackers, which made the egrets and terns always into a frenzy situation moving around. We moved away and scanned for the waders......Around 200+ terns...ducks in their partial breeding plumage....snipes and usual waders......We then proceeded onto the bridge and into the small wooded patch on the other side and started walking on the path....With a good amount of warbler activity and flycatcher calls, we were running short of time as Ritesh had to wind up by 9AM and we started walking back. I later decided to stay back and continued scanning in woods and then got to get a quick glimpse and it then dissapeared....After searching for another good 20-30 mins, finally found this hunting inside the canopy moving from branches to branches....
At one instant, it came out with a Praying mantis catch out in the sun, resulting in this image.
This was later followed by 2 Booted Eagle hunting down on the waders in the water body, both Pale and Dark Morphs.
Later found a huge flock of 100+ Red-naped Ibis on the far end of the water body.

Little Grebe (Juvenile)

This is the 1st time I was seeing a Grebe juvenile.
Got to see 3 of them. Back in August, I had see a pair with nest having couple of eggs. And now the chicks have grown :) :)

OR Should I say Rainbow Kingfisher so apt that its breeding season happens in Monsoons. Birders know Indian Pitta has 9 colors. But the vibrance of the colors in a minimalistic beauty. That's something that has pulled me into it always. And it too is not less in terms of colors and shades.
Since I started watching ODKF images, it was always a dream to try to see it. My first sighting happened to be in Pune, a gilmpse very far away for a matter of say less than a minute. Ever since, I had wished to see it for a longer time and click a beautiful image of it. And after 1 year of wait, I have got a personally satisfied image. The sheer challenge of getting an image in a drizzling environment, cloudy overcast and then finally getting rewarded with images is like a sweet victory.
Its not just the beauty but how they build nests, how they breed and overall journey of life which adds to the beauty.
