Deep in the Western Ghats, where everything is wet, dark and alive.

The forest feels less like a place, and more like a world of its own.

On World Elephant Day, remembering Chillikkomban and all the gentle giants who make our forests truly wild and beautiful.

Living alongside them is not always easy, especially for those on the forest fringes. But coexistence is the only way forward. We have the knowledge, the choices, and the responsibility to make space for them.

They belong here too.

Some places still exist beyond maps and memories.

Where the wind never rests, an old giant stands with the patience of centuries, asking for nothing, owning everything.

Happy International Tiger Day. 🐅

Let them wake up to another misty morning of freedom. Not to a world closing in.

Every tiger deserves a forest that still feels like home, where mornings begin with birdsong, mist, and peace. On this International Tiger Day, let’s protect not just a species, but the wild places that make these moments possible.

Most of us remember the roads, the mist, and the breathtaking views of the Sahyadris. But beyond the bends lies another world, where every leaf, every call, and every movement is part of a story unfolding every single day. The forest never performs for us. It simply lives.

There’s always been a special place in my heart for this tigress, not just another subject in my photography but a defining part of my wildlife journey. It all began in 2019 when I first laid eyes on her, barely one or two month old, walking beside her mother and siblings as they crossed an abandoned highway. I believe that might’ve been her first sighting, not just for me, but perhaps for all of Kabini.

From that day on, she became a constant presence during my visits to the forest. Almost every trip brought an encounter, and with each sighting, I saw her growing bolder and more majestic. She had a knack for making her presence known, often offering unforgettable moments to those lucky enough to witness her.

Over time, I noticed a change in how people spoke of her. Friends would say, “Oh, it’s her again,” with a tone that lacked the initial excitement. She had become such a regular figure in Kabini that her appearances were no longer rare, but to me, she was never just another tiger. She was a storyteller in her own right, carrying the legacy of her lineage in every step.

Today, she reigns over a part of Kabini, confidently raising her second litter just as her mother once did. Watching her continue the cycle, now as a mother and ruler of her domain, has been nothing short of poetic. Some may call her common, but to me, she is unforgettable.
