The Capped Langur is one of the most striking primates of Northeast India, grey fur, golden-orange underparts, and that iconic brown cap. I photographed them in different parts of Assam, the adult feeding on fresh leaves while a young one clung to the branches, curious about everything around.

They live their entire lives in trees, rarely touching the ground. But even that canopy life isn’t as safe anymore. In places like the Hoolongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, the electrification of railway lines that cut through the forest has started leading to accidental electrocutions of these arboreal species.

This is my February image from the 2026 calendar ‘Faces of the Forest’, a theme that celebrates India’s and Indonesia’s primates and the diverse forests they call home. Through the year, I’ll be sharing a different species each month, to bring a little more attention to their hidden worlds.

I was honoured to be a speaker at the 4th National Conference on Lesser Known Species of the Central Indian Landscape, where I spoke on Visual Storytelling in Wildlife Conservation, sharing how imagery can play a role in shaping awareness and action, with stories from the Bishnoi community and the Great Indian Bustard conservation efforts in Rajasthan.

Very grateful to and for the opportunity to bring a photographer’s perspective to a gathering of incredible researchers, conservationists, and forest officers working to protect India’s lesser-known species.

Thanks to from , the Bishnoi community and who made it possible for me to craft this story and enjoy the whole process in doing so!

Honoured to be speaking today at the 4th National Conference on Lesser Known Species of the Central Indian Landscape, on Visual Storytelling in Wildlife Conservation: Role of the Bishnoi community and BNHS in Great Indian Bustard conservation.

Sharing some behind-the-scenes moments from Pokharan, where this story first took shape: of faith, community, and an unwavering will to protect one of India’s rarest birds.

Big thanks to and the Bishnoi community for making this possible

‘Faces of the Forest’ | Photo Calendar 2026

As we are very close to entering 2026, I’m back with my photo calendar to celebrate your new year with a personal touch, this time focused on primates from India and Indonesia. 🦧✨

Often seen, rarely noticed, these are species I’ve spent years photographing quietly. This calendar is my way of giving limelight to the primates we tend to overlook. Printed on eco friendly recycled paper, it’s an invitation to stop and look a little longer through the year.

This quiet old bungalow stands as the first footprint of tea and coffee cultivation in Valparai. Back in 1864, it was surrounded by rainforest, not rows of manicured estates. Imagine mist floating through uninterrupted Shola and rainforest canopy and herds of gaur grazing where tea leaves now grow.

Wildlife like elephants, gaurs and lion tailed macaques are now seen in plantations because their corridors were carved up long ago. They haven’t adapted to our presence. They were forced to. Conservation here isn’t about restoring the past, but preventing further loss.

Lion tailed macaque: a species that’s been high on my bucket list for years, and I finally got to see it in the wild in Valparai, Tamil Nadu. Endemic to the Western Ghats, they are not only amongst India’s rarest primates, but also amongst the most beautiful ones!

One of the toughest species out there to photograph, too fast and too shy - The Bornean White Bearded Gibbon

They live very high up in the canopy and swing so fast that you mostly just hear them before you see them. Photographing them means being quick enough to get a shot or too before they disappear, but when you finally get that frame, it’s extremely rewarding!
