Known as the “Gateway to the Isles,” this harbour town connects mainland Scotland to islands like Mull, Kerrera, and the Outer Hebrides. The sea here isn’t just scenery, it’s part of everyday life.

McCaig’s Tower, Oban, Scotland. A monument that looks like a Roman colosseum, but tells a very Scottish story.

Built in 1897 by banker John Stuart McCaig, this structure was meant to be more than just a viewpoint. His vision was to create a lasting monument for his family, with statues inside the arches and a central tower. That vision was never completed, but what remains is one of the most iconic landmarks in Oban.

Perched above the town, it offers panoramic views over Oban Bay, the harbour, and the surrounding islands. Walk through the arches, follow the curved walls, and you realise this place isn’t just about history, it’s about perspective.

Raw stone, dramatic skies, and a structure that feels out of place in the best way possible.
