Re-entry is always difficult after an adventure.

A Buddhist monk once told me that if I want to experience a change in thinking, I need to completely change my environment for at least one week. I’ve been gone for three.

Right now, the normal concerns of my daily life appear to be nothing more than glaring trivialities. What’s missing? Presence.

Stepping into another culture forced me to be present.

Pond demands my presence, and that’s where you will find me for the next few weeks.

“When it was my turn to meet His Holiness, it all became a blur. I barely heard my name announced, the next thing I knew I was standing in front of the highest spiritual leader and head of Tibetan Buddhism.

He took my hand and I bowed before him, wishing him a long life. Then I squeezed his hand hard, looked directly into his eyes and said, “We need you.” His handlers started ushering me away, however the Dalai Lama stopped them and said to me through a translator, “You know, I plan on living till 110.” Again I squeezed his hand and without missing a beat said, “No! 120.” He laughed along with his handlers and I was ushered away.”

Some trips just exceed your wildest dreams.

I left the last school visit today to a chorus of good-byes.

The children will never know how they rattled me out of my complacency.

They will never know how their enthusiasm and energetic spirit has become such a beacon of hope.

They will never know how many tears I shed.

They will never know this was probably my last trip to their intoxicating India.

However, all they need to know is I am a better person because of them.

Thank you children
Thank you Pencil Tree

My extraordinary trip to India was made possible by an invitation from The Pencil Tree Charity based in Australia.

I am constantly seeking small Not for Profit organizations that could benefit from my photography. I searched extensively online and discovered this wonderful charity that is entirely run by volunteers.

The Pencil Tree’s goal is to ensure that children from disadvantaged backgrounds, the slums and remote villages of northern India, receive a high-quality education. The only way to bring these children out of poverty is through education.

The Pencil Tree was established in 2014, as a registered charity and has witnessed numerous success stories, with many students pursuing higher education by attending colleges and universities. One girl actually will become a doctor this year. Now that’s a true success story!

Their work is truly impressive, as I have witnessed firsthand. Very few charities can boast 100% of all donations goes directly to the children. The Pencil Tree can proudly boast that claim.

Please visit their website and take a moment. Consider how fortunate you are, then consider how you can help people who are less fortunate.

Sponsoring a child is an easy way to help, and you can choose from four possible sponsorship options. All donations are tax-deductible.

In a time where we seem to be bombarded with requests for donations, I can assure you that this organization represents the true meaning and purpose of a non-profit organization. I would appreciate it if you could consider supporting a child today.

My first images in this post focus on children from the slums, as they advance through their education, they are transformed into the students you see towards the end of my carousel: focused, energetic young adults ready to take on the world.

Thank you

As the leaves clung tightly to each other tumbling through the sky, I heard them echo the words:

Sometimes you just have to trust.

Sometimes you just have to challenge yourself.

Sometimes you just have to step out of your comfort zone.

As they softly landed on Cloud.

I am saying the same as I take off on an adventure.

Stay tuned for posts from another world…
