girl child is a true blessing to her family, revered in our culture as an embodiment of the divine—as Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity, Goddess Saraswati for wisdom, and Goddess Kali for justice. Yet, a stark and deeply troubling reality contradicts this reverence. A mere glance at our recent past reveals a disturbing frequency of horrific crimes against women and girls across our state and our country.
I strongly condemn these heinous acts committed against innocent women who fall victim to the depravity of their perpetrators.
The world we inhabit today exists only because of the profound sacrifices made by women. Every single one of us is here because a mother endured the trials and pain of a nine-month pregnancy. We owe our existence and our progress to the women in our lives—our mothers, sisters, daughters, and wives.
However, we cannot perpetually point fingers at the government and law enforcement machinery for all societal failures. As civilized and responsible citizens, it is incumbent upon us to behave with basic human decency and cultural integrity. Rather than simply casting blame, every individual must look inward and introspect: what is our personal contribution to society, and what concrete steps are we taking to improve this grim situation?
It is absolutely heartbreaking to learn of the recent tragedy involving the discovery of a GMC intern’s dead body here in Goa. One can only imagine the unimaginable devastation of a mother who sacrificed everything to help her daughter pursue her medical dreams, and the absolute agony of a father who toiled day and night to fund that education.
We are witnessing an alarming and continuous saga of violence against women. Cases like Nirbhaya (2012), Unnao (2017), and the recent R. G. Kar case (2024) have shaken the conscience of our nation. In many of these instances, the state machinery has successfully stepped up to bring the accused to justice.
