Graceful, elusive, and painted in shades of dusk — the Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea) is a true masterpiece of the wetlands. With its slender neck and striking plumage of chestnut, violet-grey, and black, this elegant wader moves like a shadow through the reeds.

Unlike its larger cousin, the Grey Heron, the Purple Heron prefers quiet marshes and reed beds, where it patiently stalks fish, frogs, and insects. Often seen during sunrise or sunset, its deep purples and copper tones shimmer beautifully in the golden light.
