This morning, Clouds covered the horizon.
Twilight’s usual colours were absent.
Yet, the sunrise arrived — quietly beautiful.

An unplanned trip to Kasi led me to a place Google Maps couldn't quite find: the humble home of Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan.

Deep in the alley near Dashashwamedh Ghat, the streets get so narrow that technology gives up. You have to rely on the locals, who can guide you.

Ustad Ji was the embodiment of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb. He saw the Ganges as his mother and revered Kashi Vishwanath and Allah as one. They say as a young boy, while playing at the Balaji Temple in Varanasi, he once reached a state of pure Nirvana through his music -an experience he never elaborated much, as his Guru (his maternal Uncle) didn't want him to share that spiritual experience with others.

This small house, perhaps 800 sq. ft., two floors was his world from youth until his final breath. There were many offers from his rich, aristocrat fans to move to Delhi or Dubai or USA, he wanted to lived in the banks of Ganges.

Today, his descendants keep his memory alive, and his room has become a small, sacred museum.

Standing there, you realize: Greatness doesn't need a palace. 🇮🇳

Pollen Nomad: Nature’s accidental gardener

Chestnut-Tailed Starling love nectar. They are often found hanging upside down to reach the nectar of the flower.

Here it is looking at the fully blossomed flower of the Silk cotton tree.

Between the winter chill and the summer heat lies Vasant Ritu. From mid-February to mid-April, the air turns sweet with blossoms and the heavy mists clear. It’s a season of 'cozy warmth'—never too hot. I took this photo in March, during the peak of the flowering season.

George Montagu (1753–1815), a British soldier‑turned‑naturalist, was the first to carefully study and describe the plumage, flight behaviour, and breeding patterns of different harrier species. In recognition of his work, this elegant raptor was named the Montagu’s Harrier.

Unlike many birds of prey, the Montagu’s Harrier rarely flies at great height. It glides low over open grasslands, hovering and sailing just above the ground as it searches for prey such as grasshoppers, lizards, and other small reptiles.

The male is a striking whitish‑grey, graceful and beautiful in flight, while the female is slightly darker, with richer brown tones that blend into the landscape.

We spotted a black rhino and her calf grazing in the open savanna. Shy by nature, they soon slipped back into the tall grass—her calf disappearing behind a bush while oxpeckers fluttered around the mother, feeding on parasites tucked into her thick skin folds.

Both black and white rhinos are critically endangered, and despite their names, they’re actually the same dark grey. The “white” rhino’s name comes from the Dutch word for “wide,” referring to its broad mouth.

CRAIG, Largest Tusker of Amboseli.

An iconic elephant, known for the ground-sweeping tusks.
Aged 54, he died this morning due to natural causes.

A few years back, I photographed him outside of Amboseli National Park.
