Yesterday, I was there at Phoenix Mall after being invited by Mr. Surya Chidambaram for iPhone photography workshop Through the Lens.

I initially went just to meet Surya, expecting it to be a quick visit. However, it turned out to be a completely different and enriching experience.

Surya asked me to model for the participants, which was both unexpected and delightful. As I watched the attendees eagerly share their photos with me, I was genuinely amazed by the quality of the images they captured using their phones. Each shot was impressive, showcasing their creativity and skill.

The experience transported me back to my early days in photography, over 13 years ago, when I would join photo walks and seek out opportunities to improve my craft.

This workshop was a beautiful reminder of those times, and I’m incredibly grateful to Surya for inviting me. It wasn’t just a workshop it was a journey back to my roots, filled with nostalgia and the joy of being among fellow photography enthusiasts.

Ever felt like you’re not good enough? That nagging voice of self-doubt ?

Recently, I started creating user-generated content for a few brands and found myself thoroughly enjoying this new genre, where I am the main subject in the reels.

Despite the enjoyment, I had some self-doubt about whether this strategy would work to attract new clients. So many thoughts ran through my mind.

Then, it felt like the universe answered my doubts. On Monday morning at exactly 10:14 AM, I received a phone call from a well-wishing friend. They told me they had seen all my user-generated content and found it lovely to see me in the videos. They praised my performance, calling it phenomenal and amazing. They expressed happiness in seeing me, a photographer, in the role of an influencer and discovering new potentials.

This call was a grounding moment for me at the start of the week. It helped clear away my self-doubt because, as we often do when trying something new, I was uncertain about it. I am so grateful for that call, which reassured me and put my self-doubt to rest.

Self-doubt is a common experience, especially when stepping out of your comfort zone. Receiving unexpected encouragement can make all the difference.

Have you ever tried something new and felt uncertain about it, only to receive unexpected encouragement that made all the difference? I'd love to hear your stories!

Hello Fam! It's been a while. How you been ?

I was contemplating going to Kochi and attending a meeting. But it turned out to be one of the best meetings of my life.

I got a call from Mr.Ratheesh Krishnan who demanded that I be a part of this meeting that he had paid for. I was skeptical about attending because I wasn't feeling very healthy.

I flew to kochi finally. I imagined that the meeting would just be a conference, listening to people talk. I met Lakshmi Pratury , founder of INKtalks a session about how and why we should tell our stories, especially as a woman.

It is a common experience for me and I'm sure other women as well, at workplaces or even otherwise where we are cut-off mid sentence or even worse, being unheard completely. It is a disheartening feeling that leads to self-doubt.

I had doubts about the session, wondering how it would help me because I'm not a storyteller. Yes, I tell stories with my pictures but not with words. That one session broke my cucoon of low self-esteem by teaching me to give my story a voice.

I met a lot of beautiful women. Initially I wondered if I even have a story worthy of being told. But after the session I felt more grateful towards my life and the stories it gave me. Stories from my life were recieved, I was heard. The event didn't even last a day. But Lakshmi gave me lessons that I will carry throughout my life. I feel more powerful and empowered than before.

I was surprised at how much it actually helped me get in touch with myself. I used to view myself as someone who lacked motivation. But that one day, it was like discovering my own powers. And the beauty of this is that this confidence, this power has been inside me all along. All I needed was a voice and someone to hear that voice.

Every individual in the world is looking for this end of the day. Do you know that?

Every time Tharagai gets a shot, her doctor gives her a “super kid” sticker - a label that kids who don’t cry receive.

My daughter doesn’t let us take this sticker off her for at least two days.

She flexes her achievement around proudly to everybody she sees. Her eyes light up every time as she takes pride in her sticker that she understands she earned.

I recently attended a reception. I sat in a corner after dinner, swiping through instagram.

I heard a voice behind me, “Ma'am, are you Avantikaa, Fashion Photographer?”

As I said yes and he said “You are my biggest inspiration. I had a different job but photography has always been my passion.

I show your profile and tell people that I want to become a photographer like her. I am very happily a photographer today”. This was from a guy on the wedding photography team.

This moment sparked something in me. It made me so happy. I feel like I've been running around for years now and this was a little boost on the way to keep me running longer.

It made me realise the power of appreciation and how it goes far beyond all the power that money holds. Yes, money is necessary but the inspiration that appreciation holds is undeniable in every single person.

Whether it's tharagai or avantikaa, end of the day appreciation makes us smile big.

Have you been appreciated recently when you needed it?

Hey photographers! Have you ever considered adding strength training 🏋‍♀️ to your routine? If not, this post is for you!

As photographers, we often find ourselves carrying heavy equipment, walking long distances, and adopting awkward positions to capture the perfect shot.

These physical demands can take a toll on our bodies if we're not adequately prepared. That's where strength training comes in.

Strength training, involves resistance to build up muscular strength, endurance, and power. Incorporating these into your routine has numerous benefits that can enhance your photography skills and overall well-being.

🏃‍♂️ Improve Endurance: By engaging in regular strength training, you can build up your muscular endurance, allowing you to stay energized during long shoots.

💪 Enhance Stability: As photographers, we often find ourselves in precarious positions, such as crouching or squatting for that perfect angle. Strength training reduces the risk of injuries.

🏋‍♂️ Boost Focus and Concentration: Physical fitness has been linked to improved mental clarity and focus. Engaging in regular strength training sessions can enhance your cognitive abilities, allowing you to stay sharp and focused during shoots, resulting in better compositions and capturing those decisive moments.

Remember, strength training should be progressive, gradually increasing resistance and intensity over time. Aim for 2 to 3 sessions per week, allowing your muscles adequate time to recover and adapt.

Photographers, let's take care of our bodies. Your body will thank you, and your photos will reflect the difference!
