The Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber) is the national bird of Tobago and Trinidad. This absolutely stunning, brightly colored bird is a remarkable sight to see. Although they only occur naturally in South America, they can be seen in zoos the world over.

The word "flamingo" comes from the Spanish and Latin word "flamenco" which means fire, and refers to the bright color of the birds' feathers. Flamingos are strong but rare swimmers and powerful fliers, even though they're most often seen just wading. When flying in a flock, the top speed of a flamingo can be as high as 35 miles per hour.

Flamingos hold their bills upside down while feeding, often for several hours a day, so they can filter out their food while skimming the water.

A flamingo chick's bill is small and straight, but will develop the distinct "break" curve after a few months.

Flamingos are monogamous birds that lay only a single egg each year. If that egg is lost or damaged, they do not typically lay a replacement.

Parent flamingos feed their chicks exclusively crop milk for 5-12 days after hatching. This high fat, high protein substance is not like mammalian milk, but is excellent nutrition for growing chicks.

Flamingo chicks are born gray or white and take up to three years to reach their mature pink, orange or red plumage.

The grey crowned crane (Balearica regulorum) is a bird in the crane family Gruidae. It occurs in dry savannah in Africa south of the Sahara, although it nests in somewhat wetter habitats. They can also be found in marshes, cultivated lands and grassy flatlands near rivers and lakes in eastern from the Uganda and Kenya, south to South Africa. This animal does not migrate. There are two subspecies. The East African B. r. gibbericeps (crested crane) occurs from eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo through Uganda, of which it is the national bird represented in its national flag, and Kenya to eastern South Africa. It has a larger area of bare red facial skin above the white patch than the smaller nominate species, B. r. regulorum (South African crowned crane), which breeds from Angola south to South Africa. This species and the closely related black-crowned crane are the only cranes that can roost in trees, because of a long hind toe that can grasp branches. This habit, amongst other things, is a reason why the relatively small Balearica cranes are believed to closely resemble the ancestral members of the Gruidae.

The blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), also known as the blue-and-gold macaw, is a large South American parrot with blue top parts and yellow under parts. It is a member of the large group of Neotropical parrots known as macaws. It inhabits forest (especially varzea, but also in open sections of terra firme or non-flooded forest) and woodland of tropical South America.

There has been a small breeding population in Miami-Dade County, Florida, since the middle 1980s.

They are popular in aviculture because of their striking color, ability to talk, ready availability in the marketplace, and close bonding to humans.

The Gaur is the largest species of wild cattle with the males weighing up to an astonishing 1500 kg (3300 lbs). This makes them larger than the African Buffalo and even the Wild Water Buffalo. I wonder if the Gaur gets a trophy or at least a sticker for being deemed as the largest wild cattle. So what does an animal need to eat to get this big? Well, they are known to graze on a wide variety of plants and prefer feasting on the upper portions such as the leaves, stems, seeds and flowers. I don’t blame them since this probably tastes a lot better than the roots. Perhaps the Gaur is so big since their diet is more diverse than any other ungulate species in India. Apparently, the Indian Bison will eat just about any type of vegetation it get get its teeth on. I guess you have to when you weigh 3300 pounds.

Lions are large felines that are traditionally depicted as the "king of the jungle." These big cats once roamed Africa, Asia and Europe. However, now they are found in only two areas of the world and are classified into two subspecies. Asiatic lions live in India's Gir Forest; African lions live in central and southern Africa. Though they look similar, these two subspecies are very different in size, habitat, diet and more.

Penguins are aquatic, flightless birds that are highly adapted to life in the water. Their distinct tuxedo-like appearance is called countershading, a form of camouflage that helps keep them safe in the water. Penguins do have wing-bones, though they are flipper-like and extremely suited to swimming. Penguins are found almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere, where they catch their food underwater and raise their young on land.

White Tiger (Panthera) is an inhabitant of Bengal, Bihar, and Assam in India. These tigers belong to the family of felidae. This tiger is transmuted from the Bengal tiger. These animals are smaller in size in comparison to other tigers. Most of these species are captive in different parts of the world and a good many number is held in India.
