Long post Alert First Edition - Ultimatum 1199km - Chennai Cyclist - Tambaram - Kodai - Bodimettu - Tambaram ❤️
Before sharing my journey, I want to express my gratitude to WCCG for everything. I'm still learning, and since joining this group in 2018, thanks to Anil Anna and Nikhilesh, it has felt like pure family.
A few days ago, I attempted my 555km ride but had a fall near Athur toll. I chose to quit that ride because I didn't want to jeopardize my dream ride ahead. I wouldn’t have given up if the 1199km ride hadn’t felt so important.
After quitting, I was in a dilemma about attending the 1199km ride. I hadn’t had much practice, but I stayed active by riding, stretching, and strengthening each day.
Day 1: We started from Tambaram Just buy cycles toward Trichy. The first 100km felt easy, completed within 4 hours thanks to tailwinds and favorable conditions. After 9 AM, the heat intensified. By the time I reached Vikravandi toll, I felt my energy draining. A quick meal of curd rice helped, and I pressed on to the first CP, where fellow volunteers greeted us with refreshing buttermilk. I enjoyed a full meal there, which boosted my energy.
The heat in Veppur was harsh, and just then, we had a brief drizzle accompanied by a strong headwind. I kept hydrating. After the CP, Mahendran joined me, and we took breaks to stay hydrated. We arrived at Yatri Nivas CP around 9:30 PM, enjoyed a refreshing bath, and savored delicious curd rice prepared by Prashanth Anna, our Trichy Randonneuring organizer. The volunteers helped us stretch our muscles before we started toward Kodaikanal around 11:30 PM.
Day 2: The morning began poorly; the stretch to Dindigul felt like hell with a slow gradient and strong headwinds. After breakfast, we made our way to the foothills, reaching them around 10:40 AM. I always love riding in the hills! There were three parts to the Kodaikanal climb: a 20km ascent, a small climb, and the toughest climb to the top.
After the first 15km, I found myself riding alone. I reached Kodaikanal Lake around 6 PM and completed the circuit by 6:30. As others slowed down, I wanted to grab some sleep after reaching the foothills. Contd. In comments section...
