2023 Wildlife Week Workshop - “The Art of Visual Storytelling ”

India celebrates Wildlife Week from the 2nd to the 8th of October every year. During this Wildlife Week, wildlife photographer Balaji Loganathan guided the group through the fundamental techniques of capturing animals in various lighting conditions, with the theme being "The Art of Visual Storytelling."

I was deeply impressed by the students' enthusiasm and engagement, which added to the enjoyment of the session. Their insightful questions and eagerness to learn about wildlife were truly inspiring.

Wildlife photography demands not only photographic skills but also a profound understanding of animal behavior. With the growing number of wildlife photography enthusiasts, awareness about various conservation issues, such as the interdependence of different bird and animal species, continues to rise.

I hope that this talk has ignited a stronger interest in wildlife and conservation among the students. Together, we can make a positive impact on our environment.

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the faculty and staff for their unwavering support and coordination throughout the event. Your warm hospitality made my visit a memorable experience.

"In the end, we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught." - Baba Dioum

“Lightening bugs”

Glow worms, sometimes known as “fireflies” or “lightening bugs,” are not worms at all. They are actually adult beetles, or their larvae (maggots). Both adults and the larvae produce light in special organs in their abdomens in a process called bioluminescence.

Glow worms can control whether they emit their light as flashes or as a constant glow.

A Simple Way to Create Powerful Images

Made this image in my recent trip to Kabini forest & experiment the light, while we were waiting for Tiger 🐯

Rim light can change a cliché image into a very moody and interesting!!
it’s an excellent technique to experiment with if you’re looking to add something special to your images
What I like about this technique is that the resulting photo has a mysterious look that captures the viewer’s imagination.

I guess it has all to do with the “see/not see”.

“Signatures of Kanha"

To begin, this was a shot that I had wanted to try in Kanha National park!!

Rim lighting which is often referred to as “back light”, is simply light placed on your subject which gives the appearance of a light outline. Here afternoon sun provide warm colored light..
As we all Agree: Quality of the light is determined by its color, angle, direction and intensity. The more simplified the background is, the more better subject is separated.

I would rather photograph an ordinary subject in “great light” than an amazing one in poor light.

Good Evening All,

I was invited to the launch of the Canon EOS R in Chennai at Green Park Hotel today, It is a big honor & proud moment for me to be part of the prestigious launch along with top professionals in the feild of photography
and also I got to spend some time & hands on with the new EOS R...first impressions hands-on Canon EOS R!!

Its very clear in this launch that this EOS R is not replacing anything, but instead building its own mirror less foot prints into their EOS line-up.

First Impressions :

The moment when I pick up the Canon EOS R, I feel it’s that it is a very well-built camera. It is definitely not a “beginner’s” choice camera;
As a wildlife photographer, this camera could be interesting to me for its Its low light performance , and for its completely silent shooting mode. This is very important feature to me for shooting wide-angle close up macro works, and my camera traps projects (where the sound plays a very important role).. moreover this camera has a USB charging port for long lasting camera trap feild work!

One example of this EOS R which I liked is that when you power off the camera, shutter curtain swings down to protect the sensor from dust. This is a amazing feature for Wildlife & outdoor photographers, working without any worries about continuously getting dust spots over your sensor while changing lens

If you were looking to get your first full-frame camera, the Canon EOS R is a serious one to consider.

Stay tuned for More detailed review & insights
