Short-toed Snake Eagle
Shot in Chennai, Sep’19
Nikon Gears
This was a dream and a stunning shot on the mound. This was in the first light and it was on its vantage point watching for Snakes!
It hangs on the wind like a held breath, wings flat and unhurried, that owlish yellow eye fixed on the grass below. Where lesser hawks would circle and fret, it simply waits — motionless in the sky’s current, a hunter who has learned patience from thermals. Then the fall: legs armored in thick scales against the fangs of what it seeks, snake and lizard alike vanishing into that unblinking grip. It rises again unbothered, a serpent hanging limp from its talons, and returns to its hover, that same wide, staring face scanning the stubble for the next flicker of scale in sun.
