Spotted Hyena at the Bronx zoo.
I got to see some interesting feeding behavior. As the zoo ranger explained, Hyena packs are female dominant(They're also noticably bigger in side than the females). The females get first claim on the kill and then the pups. The males get the last scraps.
While the female was eating, the male tried to grab a bite. She got aggressive and chased him away. Poor guy stood and watched the female eat from a good distance away. It was fun watching this happen 😁
Would have liked to capture this whole behavior but I had a too long of a lens. 🤭 So here's a portrait.
