Years ago, I spent countless weekends walking around Mylapore with a camera in hand.

The temple streets, the markets, the music season, the festivals, the morning light, the peopleβ€”this neighbourhood taught me some of my earliest lessons in observation and photography.

This weekend, I found myself back in Mylapore, conducting Learning to See at Ranade Library, organised by Mylapore Times.

Standing on the other side of the room and talking about observation, perspective, and storytelling felt surreal at times. It was a reminder of how much of my own photographic journey began here.

Grateful to everyone who joined us over the weekend.

This one began with observation.

Grateful to DAV Group of Schools (TNAES), Chennai, for having me conduct my first photography workshop at the very place where I once studied. ❀️

This Margazhi, I had the opportunity to work with on a special campaign for , featuring Carnatic musicians at the height of the season.

Conceptualised by ArtSpire, the campaign brought together two disciplines that demand rigour β€” classical music and handwoven silk.

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐳𝐑𝐒 𝐒𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐭𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞. 𝐈𝐭 𝐒𝐬 π₯𝐒𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞.

For years, I have documented Carnatic musicians, kutcheris, and the unspoken codes of the December season. I understand the discipline behind the varnams, the stillness before improvisation, the weight of silk under stage lights. I wasn’t documenting surface beauty; I was asserting cultural depth. I also understand that a saree in this space is not costume β€” it is cultural language.

In this campaign, I wasn’t photographing fashion. I was framing legacy.

When brands seek authenticity within India’s classical ecosystem, the responsibility is not just aesthetic β€” it is cultural. And that is a responsibility I carry with clarity and conviction.

🎬 A New Chapter Begins: Focal Frames Films is Live

Over the past few years, Focal Frames has been a space for creative exploration β€” a platform rooted in thoughtful storytelling, artistic collaboration, and passion-driven ideas.

Throughout this journey, one constant has guided us: the desire to tell meaningful stories β€” stories that move people, celebrate creativity, and give voice to the often-unseen effort behind the art.

Today, I’m incredibly excited to announce the launch of Focal Frames Films, our official YouTube channel, which marks the beginning of our journey into film and video. This new vertical is dedicated to original storytelling with a special focus on the performing arts and the subtle, often unsung beauty found in these art forms.

As we begin this next chapter, we’re deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey β€” collaborators, mentors, clients, friends. Your encouragement, trust, and belief in our vision have helped shape what Focal Frames is today.

If the work resonates with you, we’d love your support β€” whether by watching, sharing, commenting, or simply following along. Your voice helps independent creators like us keep going.

Our first project is now live, and we’d be honoured if you took a moment to watch it. Your support β€” whether by watching, sharing, commenting, or offering feedback β€” is invaluable as we begin this exciting creative journey.
