Burhanpur Motovlog Episode 3 Shahi Qilla
According to the Shahi Qila's history, it was originally built by the Farooqui rulers and lived in by Shah Jahan while he was the governor of Burhanpur. Shah Jahan became so attached to the fort that he establishes his court in Shahi Qila for the first three years of his reign. Shah Jahan spent a significant amount of time in this city and contributed to the Shahi Qila. The Diwan-i-Aam and Diwan-i-Khas were built on the Qila's terrace.
The Shahi Qila in Burhanpur is mostly in ruins now, with the exception of a few beautifully carved parts of the palace that remain as a symbol of the glorious Qila it once was. The architecture of the Shahi Qila is puzzling and perplexing for a casual visitor, so the locals call it 'Bhulbhulaya' (a labyrinth).
The hamam, or royal bath, is the palace's main attraction. It was designed specifically for Shah Jahan's wife, Begum Mumtaz Mahal, so she could take a luxurious bath in water scented with khus, saffron, and rose petals. Hammam Khana was built during the Mughal era. The baths are inscribed with the name Khan Khana Mirza Abdul Rahim Khana, a famous minister of Akbar and Jahangir. The roofs of the rooms are domed. The Hammam is exquisitely decorated with paintings on honeycomb work. Even today, the ceiling is covered in intricate paintings. One of these paintings depicts a monument that is said to have inspired the Taj Mahal. One of the fascinating facts is that the Taj Mahal was supposed to be built in Burhanpur. The chosen location is still vacant near the Tapti River. Mumtaz, in whose memory the Taj Mahal was built, died while giving birth to her fourteenth child in Burhanpur.
