Anyone who goes to Ladakh for the first time exclaims that it's 'Heaven on Earth'! For a mostly barren and rugged landscape, almost no visible flora or fauna, it is quite a confusing thought. I vividly remember a tour member of our group of photography students from Drishti saying that it is 'Photoshopped Land'. He said that to explain how he felt it already looked perfect when captured in camera. What do you think? What are your views? Have you been there? Would you want to go there?

Shot again with the Nikon D4 and 14-24mm f/2.8 combo, one of my favorites for photographing vast landscapes, this was captured with the longer end of the spectrum, i.e. 24mm. F/8.0 gives me the depth of field required for the foreground until the clouds to be in focus, 1/500s shutter speed is apt to freeze the very little motion that is mainly in the clouds and the base ISO100 was enough for exposure. The composition is quite balanced by elements while the imbalance is caused by the play of light and shadow. The clouds add drama while all the strong lines are concentric in nature, leading the eye to the beautiful river that gets its colour from the mineral rich soil particles it carries in its flow.

My condolences to all our soldiers who lost their lives or were gravely wounded while protecting our country. It is because of them that we can call this beautiful land our home. This beautiful landscape is situated on the way from Turtuk to Diskit in the Nubra valley. It is just a few kilometres away from this spot on this very road where the Thoise airbase is located. It is one of our forward-most bases situated strategically between the LoC and the LaC. Despite the temptation to capture that beautiful airstrip on camera, we held back for the sake of national interest. It is my request to all my fellow citizens to try as much as you can to support this great country we call our motherland and not do anything to compromise its security and sovereignty. Jai Hind!! 🇮🇳

Shot on the Nikon D4 with the amazingly sharp 14-24 f/2.8 at 1/1250, f/8.0 and ISO 200 at 24mm, this picture shows the vastness of the river valley that cuts it's way through the mighty Himalayas and provides for the little human hamlets dotted along its path.

Looking up at these rugged mountains against the sky makes me feel very miniscule below. The mountains are truly humbling structures that remind us of our place in this world. We are nothing but specs of dust trying to erode this world around us, powerful yet powerless.

Shot on the Nikon D4, Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm lens at 1/1250s, f/11.0 and ISO 200, my regular settings for photographing from a moving car again. Such compositions do not contain a specific subject but rely more on the balance of elements, space, color, tone, textures, etc. to create interest and mood.

I wish I could live there until the crisis tides over!

Another shot from the moving car, shot at 1/1250s, f/11.0 and ISO 200, which is usually around my regular settings for sunny day shots when moving in a vehicle. The reason why I have trained over the years to shoot from a moving car is because a lot of times we don't have the time to stop and go every time there is a picture opportunity. I usually keep my eyes wide open, camera ready in my hand hunting for frames. The reason I use a 50mm lens while doing this is because it helps me avoid the fast moving foreground while also allowing me to frame compositions at a distance.

The mountains are calling, but I'm stuck at home! The Himalayan range is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. This was a frame made back during my Spiti valley trip along with good friends and in 2016.

Shot with my workhorse the Nikon D4 and Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm, I captured this from our moving car. A shutter speed of 1/1250s to avoid any blur and f/11.0 to get good depth of focus, I bumped up the ISO to 200.

Rocks have a particular beauty to them. One can find much familiarity in their shapes and textures with things around us. Whether it is a face, or a veiled sitting person, or both, is for the viewer to decide.

Morning by the mighty Tungabhadra, a river that kept an empire alive for centuries. Boulder hopping is the most fun thing to do. Its the only way to get to this spot, right beside the river at arm's length from the strong river current.
