Anyone who goes to Ladakh for the first time exclaims that it's 'Heaven on Earth'! For a mostly barren and rugged landscape, almost no visible flora or fauna, it is quite a confusing thought. I vividly remember a tour member of our group of photography students from Drishti saying that it is 'Photoshopped Land'. He said that to explain how he felt it already looked perfect when captured in camera. What do you think? What are your views? Have you been there? Would you want to go there?
Shot again with the Nikon D4 and 14-24mm f/2.8 combo, one of my favorites for photographing vast landscapes, this was captured with the longer end of the spectrum, i.e. 24mm. F/8.0 gives me the depth of field required for the foreground until the clouds to be in focus, 1/500s shutter speed is apt to freeze the very little motion that is mainly in the clouds and the base ISO100 was enough for exposure. The composition is quite balanced by elements while the imbalance is caused by the play of light and shadow. The clouds add drama while all the strong lines are concentric in nature, leading the eye to the beautiful river that gets its colour from the mineral rich soil particles it carries in its flow.
