Some discoveries happen in laboratories. Others happen on rain-soaked forest floors.

Hidden for over a century, one of India’s most ancient living creatures was found again.

First recorded during the 1911 Abor Expedition, the elusive Red Velvet Worm (Typhloperipatus williamsoni) disappeared from scientific records for 110 years.

In 2022, Felis Creations and researchers from ATREE, with support from the National Geographic Society, retraced that historic journey through the remote Siang Valley—and rediscovered this remarkable “walking fossil.”

A survivor from a lineage over 350 million years old, the Red Velvet Worm is a reminder that even today, nature still holds extraordinary secrets.
