When it comes to one can find close to 160 species of Tanagers. Arguably a gold mine for Tanagers. That's because Colombia has close to 1900 birds the highest amongst any country.

Summer, Masked, Scarlet-bellied, Fire-faced, Scarlet-bellied, Flame-rumped, Hooded mountain tanager, Golden, Multi-colored, and Golden-hooded are just some of them.

My next Colombia photo tour would be in December 2026. Bunch of 6-8 bird lovers and an over-dose of colors, great food, lovely support staff and guides, pretty country and lots of fun.

Let's not forget :) the massive investment of not just a few thousand dollars but also 12 days. Who's game?

Over the years I have met many Photographers who I think are mostly Tiger photographers. I totally understand why Tiger's can be second to none when it comes to enjoying the beauty, admiration for the beast and also watching them thrive.

I hear "I am not in to Birds" quite often from such individuals and when I dig deep it's not disinterest in the birds but lack of skills and knowledge of how to photograph them. Most of these lovely individuals would have never tried their hands at Bird Photography or Landscape Photography. Tigers are relatively easy sitting in a jeep I feel.

But if one needs to kick-start photographing birds I think there's no better place than Costarica which provides so many opportunities that make it very easy to make wonderful images like these portraits possible.

So If anyone wants to get in to bird photography CR is perhaps one fo the easiest places to start.

I will be hosting our Photo Tour in the end of Nov. Macaws, Toucans, Quetzals, Vultures and dozens of hummingbirds apart from frogs and snakes makes this one of my favourite countries to travel to.

Go to Kabini in the monsoon.
Watch the forest drink. Mist sitting low over the Nagarhole canopy. The Kabini backwaters turning the colour of steel. A crested hawk-eagle perched still in the drizzle, unbothered. Light that no studio could replicate.
Yes, big cat sightings get harder. But your photographs get better.

You’ve chased tigers in Ranthambore. You’ve tracked leopards at dawn. But have you stood in a Colombian cloud forest at first light, with a cock-of-the-rock lek erupting twenty feet in front of you?

Colombia is the most biodiverse photography destination on the planet — 1,900+ bird species, ecosystems that shift every few hours, and wildlife zones that haven’t yet been overrun by the usual circus. I didn’t plan to document a dynasty. I just kept going back.

Twenty years of the same forest, the same lakes, the same golden dry-season light — and every visit, a different chapter of the same bloodline unfolding in front of my lens. That’s Ranthambore. It gives you more the longer you stay faithful to it.

Recently the Brown Bears found in were classified as the Kamchatkan Brown Bear giving it a distinct identity. For 15 years we have been traveling to this remote region of Russia, where we feast on dozens of Bear sighings in the summer.

Mid August we will visit this country again.
