During our recent expedition, we met this remarkable bear that walked for hours in the ice. Now all eyes were on it. Some of us were photographing her from the deck while a couple of us decided to watch her from the perspective of an ivory gull, perhaps.

Watching a bear walk on ice, moving ice floe to ice floe, jumping between them at times, swimming at times, simply rolling on the ice and doing what a typical Ursus Maritimus would do - being a marine mammal, totally at ease in the drift ice.

It was my second time in two years having this kind of an opportunity. Talk to me to discover our 2027 Svalbard opportunity. It will be my 20th expedition.

Sometimes understanding animal behaviour can be the biggest difference of how to get up close and personal with large carnivores like polar bears.

We work with the best guides and expedition teams that enable us on ground knowledge and support. This bear was sighting a mile away walking towards the ship. Took a few minutes for her to get close to us, but when she did. She was expressive, curious and beautiful.

Shot this using the SONY 50-150 F/2 at around 100mm - what a remarkable lens.

Day 5 - The first part of our Expedition focuses on Sea Ice and Bears on ice. Remember we are dealing with the worlds largest land carnivore which is marine mammal. So we feel finding it on sea ice is always our first preference if weather conditions allow.

We have had 3 bears in the ice so far. We can’t wait to show you everything we have. Stay tuned
