Angad Achappa Photography Wildlife & Nature Photographer Since I can remember I have been interested in nature and especially fauna!

Wildlife photography provides me with a unique opportunity to capture special moments in time, portraying the uniqueness of even the most common birds and animals around us. Wildlife photography in my opinion is a way of educating & creating awareness about different species that city folk would otherwise not have come across.

Just look at that head 🐯

Photographed here is Shambu, one of the dominant male tigers in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve walking head on towards us, while on his pursuit of a tigress in his territory.

Photographed while on safari during my one week trip to the jungles of Maharashtra in the month of November.

Yesterday was World Frog Day!! Just saying!! 🐸

Meet the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, often called the "Jewel of the Konkan." But don't let the beauty fool you, this is a parent on a mission.
Contrary to what their name suggests, these tiny forest hunters don't just rely on fish. In the pouring rain of the Western Ghats, they hunt geckos, skinks, crabs, and frogs, sometimes nearly half their own size—to feed the insatiable appetite of their chicks hidden deep inside a mud-bank tunnel.
I waited hours in the rain for this split-second moment. The result? A perfect delivery.
What’s the most surprising prey you’ve seen a Kingfisher catch? 🦎🦀

Terai King

A midday yawn in the heart of the Terai. 🌿🐅
The forests of Corbett have seen dynasties of tigers come and go, but the sight of a heavy-maned male shaking off the afternoon heat never gets old.
Tigers are crepuscular—most active at dawn and dusk—which means the bright hours of the day are for resting, grooming, and the occasional, jaw-stretching yawn. It’s a rare window into the "quiet" side of a cat that usually moves like a shadow through the Sal trees.
The undisputed ruler of the foothills. This photo was taken in the Bijrani range of Corbett Tiger Reserve while on assignment.

Sound on. 🔊

The loudest voice in the grassland is also the hardest to find. 🌾🔍

Meet the Rain Quail, a master of camouflage that spends most of its life invisible in the undergrowth. But for a few short months during the breeding season, the males drop their guard.

Unlike their usual scurrying self, males will stand on "tiptoes" and stretch their necks to project their double-note call ("whit-whit") as far as possible to rival males and potential mates.
A tiny bird with a massive attitude.

The "Invisible Ghost"

The master of hiding in plain sight. 🌿🐆 Unlike other big cats, the Indian leopard doesn’t just inhabit the forest; it becomes part of it. Their "rosettes" are unique to every individual—just like a human fingerprint—allowing them to vanish into dappled sunlight and shadows in seconds. Did you know they can jump 20 feet horizontally and 10 feet vertically in a single bound? Truly the most athletic resident of the Indian wild.

The "Legendary Messenger" 🦚
In Indian folklore, the peacock is the herald of the rains. 🌧️🌿 When the clouds turn dark, these "Neelkanths" (blue-throats) are often the first to dance, fanning their spectacular trains to welcome the monsoon. Beyond the beauty, they are surprisingly tough—known to take on snakes to protect their territory! From the crown of Lord Krishna to the royal Mughal thrones, this bird is more than a national icon; it’s a symbol of eternal grace. 👑

Some of my favorite moments from 2025 💫

2025 was a year of less travel for me due to various factors, personal and professional. From the beautiful weaver birds busy weaving their nests to the famous tigress bringing up five almost adult cubs to the shy hyena cub that has just started wandering around on his own to the oriental dwarf kingfisher relentlessly making trips back and forth to feed it's ever hungry chicks to my favourite from the list, the tourists admiring the sheer size of a male tiger in Tadoba, grateful to all the people, family, friends, guides, drivers and the hotel staff where I stay. 🙏🏻
