Common kingfisher at ranganhittu bird sanctuary.

This guy allowed us to go pretty close to him on a boat. There was a lot of clutter in the background. The boatsman was good enough to silently maneuver the boat to get a decent background. It is so important the driver or a boatsman needs to think like a photographer. I was pleasently surprised our boatsman knew what lens I was carrying and was giving advices to go low..so on.. thank god he wasn't telling me what aperture to use and shutter speed. That day may come soon though..😎 but he was a very nice elderly gentleman.

Road Block at bandhavgarh
I remember this pic for many reasons. This tigress is called kankatti II (daughter of Kankhatii which died last year?). Saw this tigress lazing in the afternoon sun in the Tala zone at Bandhavgarh NP. until, soon a loud mouthed forest officer barged in with his family and disturbed her sleep.
**Correction **
This tigress is not Kankatti, she is infact "Rajbera" the queen of Rajbera meadows.
I am amazed by this tigress.. She is raising her second litter.. In the four days I was in Bandhavgarh, she had twice(2 days), left her cubs in a safe places One day in the meadows of Sehra while she roamed behind the hills. She walks to far away places just to relax from the hectic demands of motherhood and mark her territory. Second time when this picture is shot, this is near the meadows of Chakradhara in the Tala zone. not sure where her cubs were during this time.
Its amazing to observe this behaviour in tigers.

Jackal family Bandavgarh National Park
The jungle was ablaze with alarm calls. we hurried over to this little water hole in expectation of seeing a tiger or a leopard coming for a drink in the afternoon sun. I was amazed to see a family of 5 jackals with one big alpha-male coming in for a sip. Jackals are rare to see and a family of this size is even rare. It was a pleasure to see these wonderful creatures out in the open. In a group, these elusive and opportunistic hunters can bring down small mammals and birds. Alarm calls from spotted deer and langurs can only proclaim they are not to be taken lightly.

Purple-rumped Sunbirds are endemic to Indian subcontinent. Similar to humming birds of the American continent, they can hover for short duration to collect nectar from flowers. Some times they also perch to feed on nectar.
