🙏 Let Us Wear the Yajnopavita After Duly Sanctifying It in Accordance with the Scriptures 🙏
Today is the sacred occasion of Rigveda Upakarma.
Dear Spiritual Brethren,
The Yajnopavita, the sacred thread, is supremely holy and stands as a symbol of Brahminhood and Vedic culture. Realising its sanctity and profound significance, let us faithfully observe our daily Sandhyavandana, the Ekadashi Vrata, and other sacred practices to the best of our ability, with devotion and reverence.
The daily performance of Sandhyavandana is an inseparable part of our spiritual life. Therefore, everyone who has received the sacred initiation of Upanayana should perform Sandhyavandana without fail and uphold our Vedic tradition with honour and devotion.
Rather than wearing a Yajnopavita directly after purchasing it from a shop, it is spiritually meritorious to have it sanctified through the prescribed Vedic rites and rituals before wearing it.
While attending the Upakarma, devotees may carry as many Yajnopavitas as possible and offer them for sanctification during the Homa and the worship of Sri Vedavyasa Deva. Some of these sanctified Yajnopavitas may be donated to deserving persons, while the remaining ones may be brought home and preserved with due purity and reverence.
Whenever occasions of ritual impurity arise—such as birth or death in the family, a visit to the cremation ground, after offering Dharmodaka, or under any other similar circumstance—one may perform the prescribed purificatory bath and other rites, and thereafter wear one of the sanctified Yajnopavitas in accordance with scriptural tradition.
