Standing Tall
The Tigress did scent marking and scratch mark as claim of her territory. Higher the scratch mark, more powerful is the message.
This is show of strength for other tigers. Being dominant female tigress of this area, She keep claiming her status. A slanting tree is an opportunity to climb and mark above the height and so did she.
Tigress was very close to our vehicle. Having a Tele-Prime lens, didnt let frame ample sorrounding, very tight frame, but first scratch marking sighting for me, so special one.

Morning, first vehicle to reach the spot... MM Road... {Thanks Rajesh P Jlr, excellent tracking with ample passion to get a sighting for guests}
She is called, backwater female.. Was sleeping on road at our arrival. She was not surprised at all.. Like she was waiting for us. Cubs were behind bushes on left side of road..
Upon our arrival, her complete attention was on her cubs now. She tried call them up to other side, but cubs being shy, in the end she herself went towards A-zone, left side...where cubs were playing. Bold tigress remained on road for ample time and a lot of other vehicles gathered.
Cubs also do came out with mother later and charmed us all 🙂
Kabini never disappoints....

This female tigress was subadult cub who is yet not separated from her mother and calling for her mother. Thanks to some friends letting to know me this.
This tigress was on look-out for its cubs. its a regular process in wild, while mother departs from her cubs for a short while, either for hunt or territorial markings, sub-adult cubs move around. When back from business, she stroll and keep calling with a typical calling sound. That sense of urgency can be noticed in call and walk. A tourist vehicle on the way is just an ignored object for her and it hardly distracts her. Focused, She keeps moving with utter patience in look-out for her cubs.

"You may not be a tiger, but you can still hold upper grounds. All it needs is exclusive skills"
While we all are concerned on Tiger conservation, that is a good thing, we often forget other creatures who are losing ground. Leopards are most adaptive animals. With shrinking forest cover, they live very close human settlements without getting noticed so easily. They have adapted so much that their are urban leopards who live on hunting dogs in city streets in dark of night.
A bit about their strength, a full size male leopard carries a deer of up to 70-80KGs weight up on tree just by holding in its mouth, without much of difficulty. Yet, such powerful creature live side by side human settlements without getting noticed much, that sheds light on intelligence of these animals. In the forest, they are not top cat, A tiger kills a leopard in moments..if it comes close to it. They survive by living on trees. When tiger count increasing, even on outer periphery of forest, these creatures numbers might reduced and pushed more towards human settlements to survive.
This is why, we see incidents like a leopardess delivered cubs in a hut adjacent to forest.
We humans may be last to go extinct but that's inevitable if we don't keep balance between development and natural habitat conservation. High time to act on to save our natural habitat, the ecosystem of forests, rivers, mountains, even oceans are under threat now.

Crested serpent Eagle (just another frame), Probable most sighted bird in forests across India. Still waiting to get it with a snake kill, as name suggests, serpents are on its menu, though all kinds of eagles catch snakes, this one specializes.

Nagarhole Tiger reserve, Karnataka, India
Date taken: 29th Feb 2020
The tigress was with its 02 sub adult male cubs when we found them in "Nagarhole Tiger Reserve" during an evening safari. February is dry season in forest, with rains approx. two months away in this part of India, giving a dry clear background, very less green, and better visibility as well in forest.
These were sub-adult cubs, on verge of separation from mother. Usually, Tiger cubs separate from their mother in approx 2 years age. Then after, they have to hunt and survive on themselves. Bigger challenge for them will be, establishing new territory.
Tigress was on its regular movement in which she keep marking territory and cubs which were sub-adult but still following their mother. Out of two cubs, one appeared bold while other one in this frame, shy one. While they all moved together; Bold one stayed at distance and this shy cub in this frame, stayed close to mother. This shy cub was not confident enough to cross in front of standing vehicle on their path of crossing. Tigress stayed very close with shy cub, boosting his confidence. Tigress and other strong cub will move and stop repeatedly, looking for the shy one to follow. Family bonding seen in wild have often surprised me. Elephants are at top in list for family bonding and care, but same goes for this tiger family as well.
