One day, Brahma and Vishnu began arguing about who was greater — the Creator or the Protector. Suddenly, an enormous Shiva Lingam appeared between them, stretching endlessly upward and downward.
They decided that whoever could find its end would be declared superior. Vishnu took the form of a boar and went downward, while Brahma flew upward on his swan.
Vishnu searched deeply but could not find the bottom and returned honestly. Brahma also could not find the top, but on his way back he met a falling flower from Lord Shiva’s head. He persuaded the flower to lie and say that he had reached the top.
When Brahma claimed victory, Lord Shiva appeared and called out his lie. Shiva declared that infinity cannot be reached by ego or pride, and that true realization comes only through grace, humility, and selfless devotion.
The story teaches that truth and humility are greater than pride and falsehood.
