This tribute band to The Beatles – “Magical Bus” is composed of some fantastic musicians.
They did The Beatles proud. And true to the magic of the music, before long, almost the whole audience was on its feet!
‘Twas a great show!

להקת המחווה הזו לביטלס – "Magical Bus" מורכבת מקבוצת מוזיקאים פנטסטיים!
הם עשו את הביטלס גאים. נאמן לכסם של המוזיקה, לא לקח הרבה זמן עד שכל הקהל עמד על רגליו!

השבוע של חנוכה היה גדוש חוויות תרבותיות מטעם תרבות משגב.
צילמתי אירועים גדולים יותר ואירועים גדולים פחות. לא משנה הגודל, כולם היו גדולים!
הנה כמה תמונות מההופעה של ג'יין בורדו שהתקיימה באולם הספורט של משגב. הלהקה לוותה ע"י להקות משגב למחול המוצלחות ומבטיחות.

I’ve certainly had a week of it… Hanukah was filled with some excellent shows and concerts all put on by the excellent תרבות משגב
The band was accompanied by the Misgav Dance Troupes.

For the past few years, I have had the privilege to photograph and participate in (albeit as an observer) Bar and Batmitzvah celebrations in the Ethiopian-Israeli community in Kiryat Bialik – a city just along the coast north of Haifa. Every time, I am swept up by the hypnotic rhythms of the music, mystified by the distinctive and inimitable shoulder-jiggles and not to mention the delicious feast of Ethiopian cuisine that is prepared by members of the community. My contribution is to record images of these events. Here are a few photos from the latest festivity.

בשנים האחרונות הייתה לי הזכות לצלם ולהשתתף (גם אם כצופה) בחגיגות בר ובת מצווה בקהילה האתיופית-ישראלית בקריית ביאליק. בכל פעם אני נסחף על ידי המקצבים המהפנטים של המוזיקה, מתפעל מתנועות הכתפיים הייחודיות והבלתי ניתנות לחיקוי ע"י מי שלא גדל לתוך זה, שלא לדבר על המטעמים של המטבח האתיופי שמכינים חברות הקהילה. התרומה שלי היא לתעד תמונות של האירועים האלה. הנה כמה תמונות החגיגה האחרונה.

During Hanukah, the kids here on Tuval were off school and all sorts of activities were put on for the young’uns to keep them off the streets.

One such event was a photography workshop run by yours truly. I ran 2 sessions, one for the 1st and 2nd graders and one for the 3rd and 4th graders.

The first stage was to give the kids some fundamentals regarding composition, a chat about what kind of photos they like and what they don’t like, then, armed with borrowed cameras and retired cellphones, we set off outside into the local pine grove and… took photos!

Time was short. Had we a little more of it, we would have come back in and together would have had a look at what we had shot. As it was, we did actually manage to have some good chats about aesthetics and how we look at the world. Here are a few snaps from the workshop.

במהלך חנוכה, הילדים כאן בתובל היו בחופשה והעסיקו אותם עם כל מיני פעילויות מגניבות.
אחד האירועים היה סדנת צילום שהנחיתי. היו שני מפגשים, אחד לילדי כיתות א' ו-ב' והשני עבור ילדי ג' ו-ד'.

בשלב הראשון של המפגש, נתתי לחבר'ה כמה עקרונות בסיסיים של קומפוזיציה, דיברנו על תמונות שבעיניהם נראות טוב או פחות טוב, ואז חמושים במצלמות מושאלות וטלפונים סלולריים בדימוס יצאנו לחורשת האורנים ו... צילומנו!

הזמן היה קצר... לו היה לנו קצת יותר, היינו מספיקים לשתף אחד עם השני את יצירותינו. כפי שזה היה, אכן הצלחנו לנהל כמה שיחות טובות על אסתטיקה ואיך אנחנו מסתכלים על העולם. הנה כמה צילומים מהסדנא.

(A bit of background... The photo was shot at the Barmitzvah ceremony for boys from the Ethiopian-Israeli community in Kiryat Bialik - the culmination of a year's process of learning and education funded by the Kiryat Bialik municipality and the UJIA. It's an incredible initiative that also works with girls in their Batmitzvah year.)
