Don't visit Catania before reading this 👇
I heard a lot about Catania before visiting and I'm so glad I didn't form my opinion until after I visited. I'm also super glad it was my first stop in Sicily rather than my last, as it is very rough around the edges and I can only imagine would be a massive let down for people visiting Sicily's beautiful towns and villages prior to visiting Catania.
Let's start with the basics, no less than 24 hours and no more than 48 to see the must see sites.
It is very walkable and I'd recommend booking a hotel by the Duomo or centro storico.
Start at the fish market and stroll up to Piazza Duomo, walk along Vittorio Emanuele Blvd and enjoy gelato or an espresso whilst doing some shopping. Visit Palazzo Palazzo Biscari, and stroll all the way up Via Etnea. Try a local arancino at Savia Pasticceria and a Sicilian Cassata at the adjacent Spinella Bar. Right across from the restaurant you'll find a lovely garden to enjoy then head back up along Via Etnea to the market for a lovely Sicilian dinner.
