MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:
Bar Herman (barhermanz) is working between Israel and Southeast Asia, creating visual narratives across analog photography and video, capturing moments of performance artists and musicians with an easy, dreamlike intimacy and a natural human feel.
While traveling in Kathmandu, Nepal, Bar hit every photographer’s nightmare: running completely out of film. He turned the city upside down, hunting for any shop with stock, and finally found one carrying only expired Kodachrome slide film. With color processing off the table, he improvised - developing the film in black and white chemistry to unlock a stunning new layer to his practice.
Bar’s photos invite us to embrace technical imperfections as part of the emotional narrative and to see the beauty in spontaneous improvisation. They reveal incredible grain and unintended visual poetry, turning a potential failure into a profound artistic statement.
