A friend recently told me: “It’s crazy how much you don’t see behind the final image. You watch your videos and think - wow, what a beautiful picture, it must come so easily.”
So here’s what sometimes stands behind those Instagram-perfect photos and videos.
1. An Icelandic storm turned into heavy snowfall.
We had to leave for Keflavik immediately after the shoot before the roads got buried.
The couple from this shoot ended up staying in Iceland for 3 extra days because of that.
2. On our way from the Faroe Islands to Tel Aviv, our flight got canceled.
Classic destination photographer experience: support chats, new flights, random overnight stays, and airport naps…
3. Beautiful Dead Sea photos come with a price:
walking into the water fully dressed, possibly ruining your clothes and shoes with salt, and being attacked by a billion flies the moment you stop moving.
4. To photograph a wedding ceremony inside the Dome of the Rock, I had to dress like a religious Muslim woman.
It was hot and uncomfortable, I kept stepping on my skirt, but I’m still so exited I had this experience in my life.
5. After a shoot in Wadi Rum, Jordan, you keep finding sand in the most unexpected places for about a week. 🫠
6. During that same Icelandic storm, the bride had 30 heating elements inside her coat, and our batteries were dying so fast that we had to warm them around our necks.
7. While photographing a wedding celebration and a concert in Israel, where the bride herself was performing, cats stole my food 😄
8. The most expensive shoot I’ve ever done: a hurricane-force gust almost ripped the door off my rental car.
It cost me €3,500.
The shoot cost less 😭
