I am really excited to announce that after months of learning and hard work, I am a qualified (commercial) drone pilot! Why did I do this?
A couple of reasons: Firstly I have loved flight and aviation since I was a kid. Endless hours in my teens spent flying Microsoft Flight Simulator, learning about different aircraft and how to fly them.
Secondly, I believe that adding an aerial view to regular photography and videography really can take a project to the next level. Almost any business can benefit from aerial photography and videography to show a unique angle that is really impossible to achieve any other way.
So why a license, you ask? Many people are flying drones without a license, even kids. There is new legislation coming into effect very soon which is going to curtail unlicensed drone flight in Israel. Due to the war, Israel doesn't need thousands of consumer drones buzzing overhead in addition to the military drones that our enemies are constantly trying to invade our airspace with. Earning money with your drone has always been illegal without a commercial license (similar to driving a taxi or bus for paying customers) and about 70% of Israel is in a no fly zone, meaning that you can not legally fly there without a commercial license and obtaining flight clearance ahead of time.
Thank you to my instructor Yuval Fransez from Drone Options for being a great instructor and helping me to pass my license quickly and on my first try!
