Prepare for a few photos from last week!
I don't consider myself a dp, and I'm not even sure that's the direction I'd like to go. But I do love working with Teshuva, and when they asked me to help them with another music video I couldn't resist.
I've been helping plan this video with them and Clemons for over three months.
Post shoot, I can say all the planning paid off. When you plan something a few months in advance there's no way you can plan around weather. But by the grace of God the weather was absolutely perfect. The day after the shoot a storm so big came through that it washed a gully big enough to stop traffic out of the driveway we were staying at.
This is a picture of our first location. We filmed all of our performance shots here.
We had a super tight budget for this. So for the back lights we scrounged up what heat lamps we could find then bought a few more. I robbed my brother-in-law of 9 150watt light bulbs. Painted some lumber I had lying around black, and we had ourselves a backlight.
For the top light I used my 8x8 frame with some sort of defusion (I know, I don't know what it is. 🙃 It doesn't say ok. And I don't have a light meter. Now get off my back.) an aputure 120D and five 1x1 panels. I really just put everything we had up there and prayed it was enough.
I saved one light panel to use as an eye light as we moved in for tighter coverage.
As an after thought we watered down the floor to give us some reflection/another element.
And smoke. Always smoke.
If you're a real dp or a gaffer, feel free to dm me and tell me how bad I screwed up. I honestly would love to know.
