On March 15, 2023 our latest DOTSO project took place in the city of Kolkata.This is one of my favourite images from that day, taken in the busy area of Park Street at 19:50. It seems that the rikshaw driver is just waiting around for a fare.

There is a place in Kolkata where 5 sets of train tracks run through a neighbourhood. This particular neighbourhood is unfortunately a slum. People literally live along these tracks as trains pass by several times daily, just a couple of meters at most, in front of their home. A very eye-opening experience. I photographed this scene while standing in the middle of one of these tracks (it was clear at the time).

On March 15, 2023 our latest DOTSO project took place in the city of Kolkata. Until recently, the selected photos were held in moratorium and could not be posted. Now that they have been released, I'm happy to share with you one of my favourite images from that day. It was taken in one of the very busy local train stations at 05:11. It was a one-in-a-million photograph. As soon as the cargo handlers came through carrying the goods on their heads, the tired, sitting traveller let out the biggest yawn I had ever seen. Couldn't resist.

Kolkata is one of those cities that doesn't sleep. Everytime you turn your head there's another photo opportunity. A saying goes... "to have eyes in the back of our head". Well, if I did, I would need another set of hands to hold another camera and shoot! One of the worlds best places for street photography!.

During our stay in Kolkata Dov Oron and I rented an AirBnB on Indian Mirror Street. It was full of life, characters, scooter repair shops and loud crows keeping everyone up all night long. Althogh we were a good 20 minute walk from the city center we found that we were relatively close to everything.

Have you ever been to a place and found that you can't stop taking pictures? That's what it was like for me in Kolkata. A street photographer's paradise. Leave your place in the morning and just start shooting, loosing all sense of time and before you know it, it's midnight and since this is a city that doesn't sleep, you just keep shooting.

I have never been to a place where a photo can be shot at every turn of your head - That's what Kolkata is! I don't think I've shot so much in my life. A street photographers paradise to say the least. Words can not do it justice and I hope that my photos speak for themselves.
