Summer 2021 - Summer Art Camp

Firstly, I hope you are all in good health & in good spirits !

I am taking an optimistic view and planning my summer camps for July 2021, with a few "Covid" changes. Assuming government restrictions allow, I will be running 4 outdoor art camps in the first two weeks of July.

There will be shelter in the form of garden marquees as well an indoor storage and toilet facilities. Children need to be prepared for all weather ! Crafts will be designed to best suit the outdoors. As much as possible children will be podded into groups, preferably with their siblings or children who they already know. Each child will have their own set of utensils/materials provided by myself which only they will use for the duration of the camp.

The camps will be for ages 6 - 10yrs and 10 -14yrs, running at the same time to allow families to attend together, different crafts will be given to different age groups. I will take a younger child, 4.5 / 5 yrs if coming with an older sibling. Over the last 10 years of running camps, I have found this the most successful model taking all things into consideration. Older children and staff will be required to wear face mask. Places will be strictly limited to 15 in each camp, so early booking is advised.

The camps will take place at my home/garden studio on Dunbur Road in Wicklow Town. Currently I am taking bookings and adding names to a list, yes, the list is already filling !! Confirmation that camps will actually be taking place can only happen nearer the time for obvious reasons. Dates and times for camps are as follows:

Camp 1: July 5th - 9th : 9am -12noon

Camp 2: July 5th - 9th : 12.30 - 15.30

Camp 3: July 12th - 16th : 9am -12noon

Camp 4: July 12th - 16th : 12.30 - 15.30

I'm really excited to announce that The Art Studio www.theartstudio.ie in conjunction with the Louise Cherry Gallery www.louisecherry.com is about to launch a children's art competition in aid of The Jack and Jill Foundation www.jackandjill.ie.

Jack & Jill provide in-home nursing care and respite support for children up to the age of five, with a range of neurodevelopmental issues including brain injury, genetic diagnosis and severe cerebral palsy.

There will be some amazing prizes, prizes for best individual entries as well as a school prize for the school with the most entries. Also all entries will be hung and displayed in the Louise Cherry Gallery, in Wicklow Town during lockdown and for a while after, so local children will be able to view if passing and hopefully after lockdown an open exhibition will enable anyone to visit.

Competition open to children nationwide.

There will be no entry free however 100% of money donated will go to the Jack and Jill foundation. Donations optional, however bare in mind that €16 provides a family with 1 hour of nurse time to help care for their child.

More information to follow so watch this space and please share post and spread the word. I will be launching the competition early next week and will be giving categories of art projects to work on for the competition and tutorials of how to do the projects.

It is all very exciting and hopefully will give all the kids out there a wee project to work on while also helping a great cause. Louise

Outdoor Halloween Art Camp

The Art Studio is delighted to announce that we are hosting two outdoor halloween art camps for ages 8-14 years during the October midterm break; Mon 26th - Friday 30th inc. Please DM or phone for more information or to book a place, spaces limited to 15 and all covid restrictions/ guidelines will be followed.

Camp 1 : 10 -1pm (fully booked)
Camp 2 : 1.30-4.30pm (places available)

The camps will be held at the Old Coastguard Station on Dunbur road, Wicklow Town (ie. Louise's garden !) They will be held outdoors so the children need to be prepared for all weather. There will be shelter in the form of garden gazebos and access to indoor toilet facilities and storage. The children will be placed into table pods and they will remain with that group for the duration of the camp. All staff and older children will wear masks for the camp. Children will be asked to bring a labelled box, an old shoe box will be fine to store their supply of utensils and materials. There will be no sharing. We will lend each child certain utensils for the week, eg, scissors, paint brushes and glue sticks, other things you will be asked to supply, a short list will be provided. These camps will have a halloween theme and each child will be given their own pumpkin, which will be used for still life drawing/painting and at the end of the week we will carve the pumpkins to take home.

As it is an outdoor camp the weather will dictate the crafts, but rest assured, we have a long list of options.
