A little colour in the autumn woodland.

During a walk through The Gearagh in County Cork, I came across a pair of bullfinches feeding among the last autumn berries.

The female seemed completely unconcerned by my presence, happily picking berries from the branches while I watched and photographed her. The male, on the other hand, was considerably more cautious and mostly offered me a view of his backside!

Such beautiful little birds, with colours that almost seem out of place among the fading greens and browns of autumn. Encounters like this are a good reminder that you don’t have to travel far to find something worth photographing.

Trochę koloru w jesiennym lesie.

Podczas spaceru po The Gearagh w hrabstwie Cork spotkałem parę gili żerujących wśród ostatnich jesiennych owoców.

Wystawę można oglądać aż do 2027 roku, więc jeśli będziecie we wrocławskim zoo, koniecznie zajrzyjcie!

I’m happy to share that my wildlife photography is now on display at Wrocław Zoo in Poland! 📷

The photographs are presented as part of a collaboration between DODO and the Polish Nature Photographers’ Union (ZPFP).

It’s great to see my work displayed somewhere that brings people closer to wildlife and nature. I hope these photographs encourage visitors to take a little more interest in the natural world and the importance of protecting it.

The exhibition will remain on display until 2027, so if you’re visiting Wrocław Zoo, keep an eye out for my photographs!

Thanks to everyone involved in making this happen!

A closer look at Ireland’s temperate rainforest.

After the recent storms, I spent some time exploring a small patch of woodland in County Cork. Everything was soaked, moss covered almost every available surface, and fungi were growing from decaying wood.

Ireland’s temperate rainforests are rare remnants of an ecosystem that once covered much more of the island. These woodlands depend on high rainfall, humidity and relatively stable conditions, supporting an extraordinary variety of mosses, lichens, fungi and other species.

They’re also incredibly fragile. Centuries of deforestation, land-use changes and invasive species have left only scattered fragments. Protecting what remains matters, even when much of its biodiversity is easy to overlook.

I’m not much of a mushroom photographer, but these little details caught my attention. All photographed with a 400mm lens — perhaps not the most obvious choice for close-ups!

Wszystkie zdjęcia wykonałem obiektywem 400 mm — dość nietypowym wyborem do zbliżeń!

Meet Kula, the little troublemaker of the Muyambi gorilla family.

Deep in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, we spent some time watching this young mountain gorilla and her family. While the adults were busy with their daily routines, Kula had other plans.

Jumping around, annoying her older sister, and constantly seeking attention from her parents. Watching these little family interactions was one of my favourite experiences in Bwindi.

What stayed with me most was how familiar some of their behaviour felt. The curiosity, the playfulness, and the patience of the adults dealing with an energetic youngster.

Poznajcie Kulę, małą rozrabiakę z rodziny goryli Muyambi.

Głęboko w ugandyjskim lesie Bwindi spędziliśmy trochę czasu, obserwując tę młodą samiczkę goryla górskiego i jej rodzinę. Podczas gdy dorosłe osobniki zajmowały się swoimi sprawami, Kula miała zupełnie inne plany.

Skakała, zaczepiała starszą siostrę i nieustannie szukała uwagi rodziców.

Ciekawość, zabawa i cierpliwość dorosłych wobec pełnego energii malucha.

First light in Killarney.

There is something about autumn mornings here that keeps drawing me back. The cold air, the dew covering every blade of grass, and the low sunlight turning the landscape golden for a short while.

During the rut, the stags tend to get most of the attention, and understandably so. But looking through these photographs, I find myself appreciating the quieter scenes just as much. A young deer crossing the grass, a few heads appearing above the vegetation, or a stag feeding between bouts of roaring.

What I like about these mornings is that there is always something happening, even when nothing particularly dramatic takes place. Sometimes the light and the ordinary routines of the deer are enough.

Czasami samo światło i zwyczajne zachowania jeleni w zupełności wystarczają.

A morning beneath the albida trees of Mana Pools.

Three elephants moving through the forest as the early sunlight found its way between the trees, illuminating the dust hanging in the air.

What I particularly like about this scene is the sense of scale. Elephants are enormous animals, yet here they seem almost small beneath the spreading canopy of the albida forest. The trees give the landscape a character I haven’t experienced anywhere else, especially in the soft light of the early morning.

I remember being just as interested in the atmosphere as in the elephants themselves. Sometimes stepping back and including more of the surroundings tells a much better story about where an animal lives.

Czasem szersze spojrzenie i pokazanie większej części otoczenia pozwala lepiej opowiedzieć historię miejsca, w którym żyją zwierzęta.

Meet Little Vic, one of the old giants of Mana Pools.

We spent an entire morning in his company, and he gave us plenty to remember. Watching such an impressive elephant moving through the landscape, going about his day seemingly unconcerned by our presence, was an experience I won’t forget anytime soon.

One thing that surprised me about the elephants of Mana Pools was just how calm they could be around people. Despite their enormous size and strength, Little Vic seemed perfectly content to carry on with his routine while we observed from a respectful distance.

We didn’t need anything extraordinary to happen. Spending a morning in the company of Little Vic was more than enough.

A special thank you to ARTUR STANKIEWICZ 🇵🇱 for making this encounter possible and giving us the opportunity to experience Mana Pools in such a memorable way.

Poznajcie Little Vica, jednego ze starych olbrzymów Mana Pools.

Pomimo swoich ogromnych rozmiarów i siły Little Vic zdawał się zupełnie nie przejmować naszą obecnością, kiedy obserwowaliśmy go z odpowiedniej odległości.

Nie potrzebowaliśmy żadnych spektakularnych wydarzeń. Sam poranek spędzony w towarzystwie Little Vica był wystarczającym przeżyciem.

The sound of autumn in Killarney.

There’s something about hearing a red deer stag roaring across the hills that photographs can never quite capture.

After my first proper attempt at photographing the rut last year, I was looking forward to experiencing it again. The calls echoing across the open landscape, the changing behaviour of the stags, and those quieter moments between all the activity make it such an interesting time to be out watching wildlife.

What I enjoy most is that you never really know what will happen next. Sometimes there’s plenty of activity, sometimes very little. Either way, there’s always something worth observing.

And often, long before you see a stag, you hear one.

Three zebras.

Taken yesterday in Mana Pools.

Stripes are usually what catch the eye, but from this angle it was the repetition of shapes, lines and slightly different patterns.

Trzy zebry.
