Hey Folks, I'll be doing another talk this year for the Irish Astronomy Week in the Rathdrum library on the 3rd of March. The talk is free and no booking is required so if you or anyone you know is interested in listening to me go on about space for an hour pop in!

I'll cover astrophotography and the principles of astronomy involved in capturing images of the night sky.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers 😁🌃

The Elephant Trunk nebula is my longest project in terms of overall time it has taken me to complete the full photo data set for Ha, O3 and S2. I took the first shots in November of 2023 which makes it 10 months to complete this project. I was shooting other objects during this time when it was best to image them but on nights with mixed conditions or moon close to other targets I kept collecting data on this nebula. Overall this is 45 hours of exposure processed in SHO palette.

Equipment used:
🔭: WO Z73 with TS 2600 mono camera
🔎: Antlia 7nm SHO filters
⚙️: HEQ5 Pro

End of summer spent under the night sky at the Copper Coast 🌌

2 shots from the night of imaging. I shot the sea stack during dusk and then setup the tracker for the sky shots. I took 29 x 2 minute sky exposures, stacked and blended with the foreground to get the final results.

Folks, thanks for those who came out to listen to my talk about astrophotography. I ran out of time and didn't get to take questions. I'm sharing my presentation for anyone who would like a reference and feel free to drop me messages with questions and I'll be happy to answer them.

This is probably one of the longest images I've ever spent editing. It took me solid 9 attempts to get the colour balance just right for my taste. There's a lot going on in the Heart Nebula but well worth the effort.

In total this is just under 10 hours of SHO, around 4 hours of Ha and roughly 3 hours on S2 and O3.

The 2023 deep sky season is off to a bang 😁 I've been working on assembling an updated rig and this is my first result of NGC7000. I got both the North America and the Pelican nebulae in the frame along with all that beautiful dust and surrounding gas clouds.

This is a total of 10 hours 30 minutes of integration using SHO filters.
