With less than 3 days to go to the start of the WIORA championship. Excitement is building with boats arriving at Rosmoney point to Mayo sailing club by road and by sea.
My wife and I have taken a break from our circumnavigation of Ireland to join in the fun and excitement that only comes with a championship like this. (follow us on Instagram tarberttotarberttotarbert and if you can donate to 3 worthy charities. ACT, Brainwaves and the RNLI see the link in the bio.)
Clubs on the western seaboard are well represented, as well as clubs from around the country who are participating in the Ruffian nationals which is being run in conjunction with WIORA.
Mayo sailing club commodore Pat Aylward and his team have been working tirelessly to ensure an excellent championship. With Scorie Walls as referee and the weather looking positive racing should be keen.
Mayo sailing club has celebrated it’s 50th anniversary and it is going from strength to strength. The last Wiora championship was held here in 2014. It was very memorable not least remembering the choc ices that were handed out when the wind was absent.
Watch out for updates and reports on wiora.ie

Hi everyone
With a little over two weeks left to WIORA
A reminder, that you need to have your cert up to date,
Return any WIORA trophies in good condition with your name on it to a WIORA committee member or Mayo sailing club,
and sort your passage plan.
There are 36 entries so far, so it is hotting up to be a great championship. I'm looking forward to seeing you there.
