A few images from my photography workshop on Achill Island 3 weeks ago. We had amazing sea conditions throughout with 20-30 seas and light(ish) winds. Such incredible coastal scenery out here. Our base on the south coast was so close to the action too.

I have dates up on my website for next years workshop.

I've been chasing this image for quite a while now. I found the spot a few years back and have waited a long time for a combination of conditions to set it all off - mid winter sunset, a high tide and a big winter swell with light winds. The last requirement is a really hard one to get in Ireland. What passes for light winds out here? About 30kph onshore on this occasion. Even then I was wiping the front of the lens every few shots as there was so much spray in the air.

The beautiful Ingjaldshóll Church. The tiny Lutheran churches of Iceland are as much a part of the landscape here as the glaciers and volcanoes. They fit so well in the landscape. On this visit we kept getting periodic holes in the heavy cloud cover. The bursts of light spotlighted the church and the grassy hill it sits on. Behind are the flanks of the Snaefellsnes Volcano. The classic view of this church uses the little road leading up to it as a great leading line. This shot is a bit different, shot by positioning my drone over the lupin meadows.

We're back here on my tour in September, with some places still available. Check my website if you are interested.

From a day trip into the Highlands of Iceland in September. Not the usual weather for this place - sunshine, blue skies and light winds - and not really the best for landscape photography. But the alternative might have been alot worse. The landscapes here are incredible and easiest to shoot with a drone.

The truly amazing landscapes of Iceland - just some inages from 10 days there running my photo tour there with a great bunch of photographers and my colleague . For a photographer Iceland can be an exhausting place to shoot. There is a bewildering number of locations and subjects here - it's inexhaustible. We covered 2000km including a trip into the Highlands on a specially adapted 4WD vehicle. We had auroras, rainbows, squalls of wild weather and calm sunshine. From black sand beaches to iceberg lagoons, braided rivers to luminous moss and waterfalls. And of course the ubiquitous Icelandic ponies and churches.

Come and join us for an adventure in Iceland in 2026!! Link in bio.

Some images from the Dolomites shot during a week spent there over the summer. Always excited to get to the Alps and the Dolomites is one of the most remarkable areas.

The Blasket Islands off the southwest tip of Ireland's Di**le Peninsula are one of the wonders of its amazing Atlantic coastline. Incredible rock architecture and wildlife. All of these shots from a single two hour long boat trip with Di**le Sea Safari.

So much you can do in these situations, from lens choices, depth of field and selective focus to shutter speeds and exposure choices.

One from a recent Ireland photo tour taking in Giant's Causeway. Seems strange to come to the Causeway and not shoot the stones, but the view from the back of the Causeway to Benbane Head was compelling, especially with the thrift in bloom.
