A big welcome to a new priest to our Parish of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, Father Jude. All the way from Nigeria, from St. James Parish, Kadyis, Pankshin Diocese, Plateau State, Nigeria. It has been well documented that Nigeria and Father Jude’s place included is also suffering many attacks on the Catholic and Christian Faithful by ismalist terror groups. Keep them in your prayers always. Father Jude will be with us for five years, whilst studying Canon Law in Maynooth and will be working in the Parish, he is doing the 10am Holy Mass on Sunday in our St Mel’s Cathedral. Father Jude told me it was a long conversion, but was inspired by his parents. In Africa if both your parents go to Holy Mass you go to Holy Mass that is where it all started. You are very welcome to our Parish Father and the very best with your studies, I and I hope all will keep all the faithful across the world that are under attack in our thoughts and daily prayers.

Fire at a Mattress recycling plant in Longford Town industrial estate. Started around 5am and after lunch time they still were making sure it was put out completely. They do not call them heroes for nothing, the local fire brigade were on the scene in minutes, ten minutes later and this could have been a greater disaster. By containing the fire which they had to do under extreme heat, they saved two factories and the possibility of a stopped Dublin/Sligo train service in close proximity. Thankfully apart from lots of smoke the damage was limited and manageable, and thankfully the business will be up and running again soon

Meet the lovely Maria Eduarda da Silva Vieira, part of the team of trained fitness instructors at Midlands Strength gym. Originally from Brazil, now lives in Ballymahon, Maria is very passionate about her career as a personal trainer. She is very grateful to April and David, owners of the gym where she has the time to grow and evolve her learning all the time. Maria completed the APEC course a few months back for her Personal Training qualifications. She runs a spinning class in the gym, for personal training she likes cardio and looking into Zumba and other form of cardio down the line. Photography and visual art exhibtion

Project Statement

Our Animal Kingdom is a photographic exhibition by visual artist Michael Croghan, using a selection from his growing archive. This exhibition has a look at the psychogeography, character and culture of our animal allies and their natural landscape in our time. Poetic, beautiful, stoic, contemplative, serendipitous, brutal as well as pleasing to the eye. Commonalities, the unseen, something that we can reflect on ourselves in how we relate to our allies and God’s gift to man. For the photographer animals have always been an integral part of his life, memories of hunting, always surrounded by pets and summers on a family farm. This project brings closer the idea of us as custodians and to remember that animals are our allies, almost family. They reflect on our humanity and in a time of excess and intensity of fast food conveniences, we can lose that idea and create a greater gap. Michael is a documentary photographer who photographs in-between spaces, in a poetic realist and formalist style adaptive to the everyday vernacular. He collaborates with communities of interest to explore social tropes and hidden histories, a transcendence of the familiar to draw attention to the poetry of the common place.
