There was such interest in my post from earlier this week of the Long-Eared Owl that was visiting us this summer, that I have dug out a few more shots of it here. We had a Long-Eared Owl visit us for a couple of weeks over the summer. Same time every night .. just after sunset .. it would fly into our field at the back, land on one of the fence posts, listen, then circle the field and swoop into the long grass. I never saw it catch anything.. it would fly on, circle the house, flying very low, no more than about 6 feet from the ground, with extraordinarily long wings for such a relatively small body that moved imperceptibly, then away across the field in the other direction. Amazing to see it hunt in that part of the field where we had left the grass grow long and wild. ...

Finally back to editing and posting some pics from the last few months .. a very early trip to the bog in July brought me an encounter with this beautiful lad hunting worms in a field. Our more local fox has taken a hen and a duck this year but that's what they'll do if they can get away with it .. live and let live as far as I'm concerned .. I've just had to improve the fencing and try to be smarter than the fox. Beautiful animals. ...

I've been avoiding editing and posting photos for the last few months.. not sure why (although I think the proliferation of AI photos on feeds has something to do with it!) .. anyway I'm back enjoying it for now.. here some shots from the last few months .. Tortoiseshell butterfly on Fleabane flowers, Meadow Brown on a thistle flower, Rabbit in Lough Boora, and a Redshank on the Sligo coast. Enjoy! And wishing all a peaceful Christmas 🎄 🙏🏻...
