POV: A newborn session needs to be quick because my baby won't tolerate being handled for long.

This is a common misconception many new parents have. They think 1.5 - 2.5 hours of a full newborn experience would be too long for their baby.

The reason my sessions are that long is that they have been designed specifically around newborn babies needs.

There is no rushing, I am led by the baby I am photographing and I'm always looking out for cues to know what they need.

During my newborn photoshoots, there is plenty of time for me to settle your baby, meaning we can get a lovely mixture of sleepy and awake images.

And if your new arrival has older siblings, this extra time is ideal to allow them to settle in before getting them in front of the camera.

He can walk now… so how on earth are we going to get photos of him? 😅

Meet Brody. I first photographed him as a tiny newborn, and now he's ONE!
But this time, Mum arrived with a little bit of a worry…

Brody can walk now. And Nicole wasn't sure how we'd manage to get beautiful photos if he wouldn't stay still long enough.

And then there was the smiling…Brody wasn't particularly interested in giving me his biggest grin during his studio session.
But guess what? He didn't need to.

Because babies and toddlers don't have to smile on command to have their personality captured. Sometimes it's in the serious little expressions or the way they move or look at something. All those little things that make them THEM.

And yes… we did bring out my secret weapon for older babies:
🫧 BUBBLES! 🫧
Because sometimes a little distraction is all you need to get them engaged and having fun.

When Mum saw her gallery, she was delighted that I captured Brody so well.
And that meant so much to me. Because that's what I want from your photos.
Not a child who looks like they're performing for the camera. Your child, exactly as they are, because they'll be different again before you know it.

Some babies just love being wrapped up in a cosy little bundle…

And baby Ríadh was definitely one of them. She was an absolute joy to photograph and slept through most of her newborn session.

Whenever she started to stir, a little bit of wrapping was all she needed.
Once she was cosy and secure again, she would drift peacefully back off to sleep.

Her mum, Emma, wanted to keep things simple and timeless. Soft whites, delicate flowers and plenty of beautiful little details to keep the focus exactly where it should be — on Riadh.

And I think these simple setups suited her perfectly.
Calm. Beautiful. Uncomplicated.
Just a tiny new baby, exactly as she was in those first precious weeks.

There really is something special about photographing those tiny newborn details before they change so quickly.

The saddest home for beautiful photographs is your camera roll.

We all know how clogged our phone gets with meaningless screenshots and photos. It becomes a days work to just find the memory that you were hoping to look back on.
