I was pleased enough with the Wheatear photos that I got in the Wicklow mountains a few weeks ago, but I am even more pleased to have these taken along a coastal cliffside with the wonderful flowers that grow on the cliffs this time of year on the jagged rocks.

I really wish I could have got them in better light but nature does what it does on its own time and despite multiple trips down this was the only occasion I was able to see them mating; I can't complain as that in itself is a first for me.

The Wheatear in breeding plumage is something I've long wanted to photograph as I've only seen juveniles before. Driving home along the mountain road a few days ago I somehow managed to spot a male. I returned to the area a few days later to see if I could find it and to my surprise I found the male and a female. Unfortunately I didn't get them in the same frame, but I'll take it.

After what feels like months of very little going on, things are definitely warming up. A cuckoo being harassed, understandably so. I've only managed 1 other photo of a cuckoo before and their short stay here makes it a welcome sight.

The willow warblers have returned for the summer, and it seems like they are here in very good numbers.
