GMIT HOTEL MANAGEMENT STUDENTS HOST A MOCK CIVIL PARTNERSHIP RECEPTION IN AID OF PIETA HOUSE Forth year Event Management students on the honours degree in Hotel & Catering Management in GMIT are organising a Black Tie mock Civil Partnership reception in the Harbour Hotel, Galway, on Thursday 18 April to raise money for the charity Pieta House. The event starts at 7pm with a drinks reception in the Harbour Hotel who specialise in Civil Ceremonies & the more intimate wedding. The guests will be treated to a three course meal and superb entertainment including celebrity guest Noel Cunningham (TV 3), Dance Act Mystic Force, an Adele tribute Act Sara O ‘Kane and DJ Matthew, plus Divmedia Photography will be there to capture all the fun and guests will also have the opportunity to win great prizes at a Raffle which will take place on the night. Pieta House is a non-profit organisation providing a specialised treatment programme for people who have suicidal thoughts or who participate in self-harming behaviours. This event is not only a great way of raising money for Pieta House it is also a great learning experience for the event management students. Event Management lecturer Maria Murphy said "once again this event provides excellent opportunities for College of Tourism & Arts students to plan and manage a real event. Fourth year students that came from programmes in Hotel, Retail, Culinary Arts and Bar Management, work together to showcase not only their vast range of skills and knowledge but in doing these tasks also clearly demonstrate their ongoing commitment to support community groups such as Pieta House, which need any financial support available in such difficult times”.
