Happy to see haul outs of seals in Irish and British waters than travel to the ends of the earth! Here are some beauties on the edge of a big group here in Scotland last week ☺️

Happy World Wetlands Day!

A group of Ringed Plover and Dunlin along the Claddagh in Galway yesterday waiting patiently for the tide to go out so they can go for their next big feed.

A hungry Oystercatcher with his lunch along the shore yesterday!

The easiest wader to identify with it's high contrast colouring from it's black and white feathers to bright red bill, red ring around the eye and pinky red legs.

There are 12 species around the world. Our Irish oystercatchers are specialist's as either prisers or smashers! You can tell depending on whether the tip on their beak is fine tipped or blunt. They are a clever bird that considers handling time when choosing which prey to eat. As black headed gulls can be waiting nearby to sneakily sn**ch that tasty worm!

Mr & Mrs Stonechat amongst the seaweed from this morning's monthly catch up on Nimmos pier to the Mutton Island Causeway. A great way to brush up on my ID to have the company of others even if it was Baltic cold with the wind today!

Coming to the end of another project. We've had rough seas & plenty time in port on this one. Dolphins joined us any day we did make it out though! I'm taking a break until January & time to go through my photos from this year.

This one is a Northern Fulmar photographed on one of the more glassy days in the summer while on the Celtic Explorer. A bird from the petrel/tubenose family. They pair for life & live upto 60 years! This time of year they spend their time offshore.

Underwater beauty!

On one of my recent projects, there was the perfect view from the bow to watch the common dolphins come in & bow ride. Playfully racing ahead with underwater twists & turns in the surf.

Back to sea tomorrow after a busy week!
Happy to see some of these guys again πŸ’™

A perfect pod of pilot whales from my last project on the West of Ireland. It had been a few years since I had seen this species. They spent an hour gently milling around. Really exciting to see them again! Cable project complete and onto a geophysical!

Back to marine wildlife with a mother & her calf in the Celtic Sea. Common dolphins loved to swim along side the Celtic Explorer when I was onboard in the summer. I was often seeing calves so young they still had their fetal fold lines. I love how her beak is just perfectly entering the water again.

A stunning Roller from more than a year ago in Tsavo National Park in Kenya.

Regularly seen sitting on top of high branches or posts to get a good view over the Savannah grasslands. Hunting by watching and waiting.

Rollers are related to the diverse and beautiful bee-eater and kingfisher birds.
