Award-winning documentary family photographer & educator based in Dublin, Ireland. I capture (extra)ordinary moments for families both in photographs and video.

When I photograph a family, my ultimate goal is to capture those fleeting moments you want to hold onto and arrange them in a beautiful heirloom album for you to treasure and then transmit to your children. The achievements I take the most pride in are putting little ones and big ones at ease and creating images that couples and families want to enlarge and hang over their sofa.

No shoes. No tripod. No flash, posing, scripts or prompts.

But lots and lots of life, play, laughs, emotions, mischief and love.

I move around, standing, sitting and sometimes climbing on the couch, and I observe, frame and freeze moments big and small.

The most beautiful thing this mum said to me afterwards is: "Honestly, it's the most precious, beautiful thing. I am always asking for photos, and you just got the most amazing photos of me interacting with my babies."

All families say the same thing: after a while, it stops being weird having me take photos.

I don't become invisible, but it feels like having a friend over who happens to click a lot in the background.

In return, I get to capture real expressions, emotions and moments when everyone feels comfortable and able to be "them".

When I spend a morning with a family, I don't have a plan or a list of "must-get" photos. I go with the flow, match the energy, observe, move around and capture what I'm most drawn to.

Of course, I am going to include every member of the family, and my goal is to preserve a wide range of moments without rushing.

Which is why I love longer sessions, but even in 45 minutes, I'm confident I will deliver plenty of images you will fall in love with.

"Johanna, I've had some photos taken in studios after each of our boys was born. But when I received your gallery and watched the slideshow, I only made it five or six photos in before the tears started flowing.

There is something so special about photos in our home with all our boys. Not posed, just so, our family and our normal. I don't think anything will ever compare to these photos.

The ones of Adrian and Reuben making coffee. A simple task they do nearly every day. I know we will forget these moments, but the pictures will bring these memories back.
