"Glenmalure is a 20-kilometre long U-shaped glacial valley in the Wicklow Mountains and is one of the longest glacial valleys in Ireland. Glenmalure is a base for hill walking and mountain climbing activities in the area. The An Oige Glenmalure Youth Hostel, situated at the intersection with the Fraughan Rock Glen, is open during the summer months with no running water or electricity and dates from 1903. The Glenmalure Valley offers great walking and hiking trails. This is the most popular start to climb Lugnaquilla, Wicklow’s highest Mountain". [wikipedia]

Aerial view of a dense monoculture spruce forestry in the Wicklow / Dublin Mountains nearby a 570m high peak called Maulin along Wicklow Way trekking trail.
Unfortunately, we have hardly any true mixed forest in Ireland. Most of the forest areas managed by Coilte are de facto tree farms used only for timber production. Boring spruce plantations stretching sometimes to the horizon without animals, vegetation or mushrooms. The oldest Irish trekking trail, Wicklow Way, 131-kilometer long-distance trail that crosses the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland, runs from Dublin through County Wicklow and ends in the County Carlow, is full of these not-so-fascinating views. In The Irish Times John G. O'Dwyer described the Wicklow Way as "gloomy trails through invading armies of monoculture [...] as memorable as a motorway median". Although in good weather and blue skies this trail offers nice views, a walk among the dark, dense spruce plantations will remind you of exploring the concrete jungles of post-Soviet cities and not communing with nature in its purest form.

Chasing the wind.
Why do some boats have red sails?
"The colour goes back to a process using “Tanbark,” a tannin rich dye and preservative that help prevent mildew and rot in canvas and cotton sails. It is no longer necessary in modern synthetic sail cloth, however in more traditional boat design, with correspondingly traditional sail plans, some owners of these vessels prefer the traditional appearance of sails made in cloth of a colour that imitates the old “Tanbark” process" - quora.com

"Curracloe Beach is a beautiful stretch of white sandy beach in County Wexford. stretches from Raven Point to Ballyconigar near Blackwater and is a stunning stretch of the Irish coastline. It is a particularly safe area for bathing and received the International Blue Flag award. The golden strand is accompanied by hilly sand dunes where various plants bloom in spring and summer. The opening scenes of 'Saving Private Ryan' were filmed on the beach by Hollywood director Stephen Spielberg, with many Wexford locals joining the cast as supporting extras." - discoverireland.ie

Sunny winter in Mourne Mountains.
"The Mourne Mountains are the highest and most dramatic mountain range in Northern Ireland, its summits crowned by granite tors. The mountains themselves are criss-crossed by an unrivalled network of paths and tracks. Any newcomer to the Mournes will be simply amazed at the variety of landscapes that can be encountered within such a confined geographical area. The Mourne Wall, now a famous landmark running through the Mournes, was originally built in an effort to keep cattle and sheep out of the water catchment area of the Silent Valley reservoir.
Completed in 1922, it took over 18 years to complete with many skilled locals seasonally employed to build this stone wall which still stands up to 8ft high and 3ft wide. It is 22 miles (35.5km) in length and connects the summits of no less than 15 mountains in the Mournes, including Slieve Donard." - walkni.com

Dalkey Island (Irish: Deilginis meaning "thorn island"). It is an uninhabited island located around 16 km south of Dublin. An important site of pilgrimage for centuries, it has been known as "St Begnet's Isle" since records began. The earliest reference to 'Dalkey Island' is from 1782. The island had a population of 8 in 1841. The island is currently uninhabited but there is evidence of human occupation dating back to the Neolithic period. The remains of field systems, a church, a cairn burial, a gun battery and the Martello Tower still exist. There are two Holy Wells, one on the western shoreline is known locally as the "Scurvy Well" and is located within a surrounding stone structure. It was believed that 'taking' water from the well attributed to the saint could cure scurvy. Recent tests to the water show that it has high levels of vitamin C (the cure for scurvy), probably due to its position below a salt marsh. The island is also an ideal spot for fishing, with po***ck, coalfish, wrasse and mackerel being caught. The channel between the island and the mainland is very deep. - wikipedia

"Poulaphouca Hydro Station - Poulaphouca Reservoir, officially Pollaphuca (from Irish: Poll a' Phúca, meaning "the Púca's hole") is a reservoir and area of wild bird conservation in west County Wicklow, locally know as Blessington Lake. It is the largest artificial reservoir in Ireland by capacity and surface area. It was created between 1937 and 1947, with flooding beginning at 10 am on 3 March 1940 by damming the River Liffey at Poulaphouca as part of the Electricity Supply Board project to build a second hydroelectric station in Ireland.
