Some great coverage in today's papers for NYCI as Over 300 young people representing every constituency in Ireland tell their local politicians why they must invest more in youth work. Pictured at the National Youth Council of Ireland Showcase ‘Youth Work Changes Lives’ in the Mansion House, Dublin. The national youth work showcase brought together over 300 young people representing every constituency in Ireland to celebrate the value, diversity and vitality of youth work in Ireland. A key message emerging from the day was that hundreds of thousands of young people and their communities take part in and benefit from youth work, and that we need to sustain and increase funding for youth work to meet the needs of our growing youth population. Had a stroke of luck yesterday. PAB Travel downstairs under my studio do trips to Normandy for the D Day commemorations. I got a tip off these guys were coming in an hour so I dropped what I was doing, hopped on the bike, got absolutely soaked and lashed up a few lights in the studio. I went downstairs and they were all outside smoking waiting for the bus so I explained who I was and asked would they like to come up for a few snaps. The whole battalion marched up, It felt like I was being invaded! It's amazing how a uniform changes your perception of someone, I'm not sure what they do for a living, probably an accountant , a bus driver and an electrician, maybe I've seen too many war movies but looking at their faces you can nearly imagine all their back stories and a picture in their wallet of a girl back home. So off the went to get the ferry to Cherbourg where they'll take part in all the D Day events and no doubt share a few cups of tea!

Delighted with the great coverage in the Irish Independent, Irish Times, Irish Examiner and Times Ireland edition from this event, here's just a few shots from the mayhem of the Intel Mini Scientist Grand Final which took place at the Helix in Dublin City University. At the event, 28 schools from across Ireland exhibited their science projects to compete for the overall first place prize, 5 runner up prizes and 4 special awards. The Intel Mini Scientist Exhibition is a competition for primary school students in which they develop science related projects which are exhibited at fairs within their own schools. This year, almost 8,000 students participated in Mini Scientist from 18 different counties with over 135 different schools taking part. Pic: Marc O’Sullivan www.marcosullivan.ie
