One last goodbye to meteorological summer 2026. Thanks for all the great memories and to every one of you who added to making it a spectacular season.

It was certainly the summer I had been waiting for. July especially was brilliant.

August couldn’t let go without one more standout and this rainbow wasn’t just bright, it was also long lasting over 20 minutes. It just got brighter and brighter with even a formation of a rare supernumerary bow.

As we end the season on a wet note, I just want to take time to look back on the great summer of 2026 we had. I've enjoyed it.. A LOT. I want to also include the final week or so of May here because that added to my experience and is actually my favourite part of 2026.

Unforgettable memories include:

- A lovely day out with my equally weather obsessed friend to County Louth on 26th May where I couldn't believe the conditions at the Fairy Tree. Those clouds were fantastic.

- The best Howth Cliff Cruises ever on 27th May with superb light of fiery glows, rainbows and I even seen a bolt of lightning. I had booked it last minute when I seen there was spaces and I had no other ideas what to do for sunset that day. THE SHEER LUCK

- Later the same evening on 27th May following the Howth cruise, an offshore thunderstorm near Wales provided distant lightning for pictures and one of them landed right in between the incinerator and the Poolbeg Chimneys making for a perfect bucket shot. Pure luck.

- Getting the Poolbeg Chimneys rainbow bucket shot from Clontarf took dedication of 3 straight days and 6 hours on the day 4th June itself that I ended up getting the shot. But it all feels extra rewarding when it does happen.

- An insane display of noctilucent clouds on 7th/8th July which lasted throughout the entire night.

- Another epic cruise with Goat Boat Tours on 16th July when the Irish Sea was like glass with an unreal Poolbeg sunset alignment.

- One final brilliant 3 hour cruise with Dublin Bay Sea Safaris on 19th July to Ireland's Eye, Lambay Island and finally getting to see Kish Lighthouse in Dublin Bay.

- I visited Galway, Cork and Clare for the first time all in July getting bucket shots of Pine Island Connemara, Cobh and the Cliffs of Moher. I got pretty good conditions for all of them, especially lucky with Galway where it was mostly cloudy but a break in the clouds right at Pine Island.

- The partial solar eclipse on 12th August with Riccardo Rea Photography, Stephanie Rea Photography and Shane Walsh Photography in Curracloe, Wexford was special. Lots of people curious joining our live streams to see it on our cameras and being amazed. Then a stunning clear warm moonless night in Wicklow seeing a lot of shooting stars and meteors.

- Then of course most recently, Ryanair transiting the moonrise on 26th August.

What an insane season. What was your favourite moment of it? I have too much to choose from, I'm absolutely spoiled.

The January pic for my 2027 calendar has been voted on and decided. It will be unveiled with the rest when I announce my calendar. So now it’s time to vote for the February pic.

These are the nominees for February. Not a lot of wow ones for February admittedly to choose from. February needs to start giving some great weather next year to step up! Remember each calendar pic needs to have been taken in the month it was chosen for making it unique from other calendars.

Sunsets in Howth and Malahide on 26th August 2020 and 2019 respectively. Old pictures so I was very much an amateur then with cheap gear and didn't know what settings were with blown out skies.

It was this day in 2012 that I lost my nanny Monica. There are some people who leave such a mark on your life that, even years after they're gone, you still find yourself thinking about them and wishing you could have just one more conversation. She was one of them. Being so young at the time, only 11 years of age, little did I know how soon the heavens would take her away from me.

The impact she had on my life never left me. She wasn't just my nanny... she was my best friend, and one of the very few people who seemed to truly understand me. She understood my quirky nature, my strange little ways, the things that made me different, and she never made me feel like I needed to change any of it. She just got me.

So I want to post these sunsets in memory of her on this day even if not my best pictures.
