Week 13

Food photography & Social Media
BA Culinary Art
Year 3

I changed my theme a little, classes are online from the house because of crisis COVID-19
The first idea was a ''raw food production'' but with the time taken pictures, I liked the idea of one product on a black background.
This is the last week of photography adventure. I spent that time editing photos and I made some new shots.
I am very happy that I could take part in this module 😃
I learned a lot about photography and light.

What makes me happy is that I started using my Canon more often than before, only on manual settings, which is very big progress.
Another thing I learned during this module is photoshop, this powerful software helps cover all mistakes, make colours more expressive, never thought I would be able to edit photos in this software.
Taking pictures is a very nice job, but it requires a lot of creativity, a sense of composition, and basic knowledge of camera settings.
Making the first pictures wasn’t easy it took some time to understand how to use correct camera setting, but when I understood it, making photography was a pleasure.
Here are some picture ''behind the scene'' shows how my photographies were made in a homemade studio.
Another post shows 6 pictures, I decided to use in my project.
Every photography has an explanation of how was made, what equipment I used and about camera settings. All pictures I made on a Canon D600

Year 3

Its week 11 already, two more weeks and the adventure with photography will end.

I changed my theme a little, classes are online from the house because of crisis COVID-19

The first idea was a ''raw food production'' but with time taking pictures I like the idea of one product on a black background.

Below I attached 3 more pictures, I picked to my portfolio.
I've got already 6 photography which I want to use in my project.

For another two weeks, I'm going to work with photoshop and make the pictures looking correct.

BA Culinary Art year 3

College still from home. During this time I didn't make too much new photography because I'm working as well but I checked my gallery and I have already 4 photos which I'd like to use for my portfolio. That's a good sign 😁

I've got an idea for another two pictures. I'm going to make them this weekend and spend more time in photoshop to work with them and start to create a portfolio.

I picked one photography with frozen raspberry and made few changes in photoshop, but how can be seen below I put too many changes and photography doesn't look good, overdone, the original one looks better than before.

Week 9

Food photography & Social Media
BA Culinary Art year 3

Another week all schools and colleges provide online education because of pandemic COVID-19. Yesterday prime minister provides new restriction about ‘’stays at home’’ all parks will close, the road around the beaches, home can be left go to work or to do necessary shopping, medical cases or exercise once a day.
Today is my college day and I decided to stay at home, I’m going to make a small studio and make photographs all day.
How I mentioned in week 8 we’ve got access to software such as photoshop and lightroom. I didn’t have time to install them yet but I’m going to do that today.

Here's few photographs I made today

Week 8

BA Culinary Art year 3

Schools and colleges in almost the whole world are shut down by the government because of pandemic Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).
I work in a hospital, that’s a busy time for me and my work colleagues.
That’s a hard time for all of us shops, restaurants and coffee shops are closed, a lot of people can’t go to work, must stay at home.

Most schools provide online education in our case is the same. We have online contact with our teachers, and we’ve got access to all need software such as photoshop or lightroom. All projects must be done.

No access to photographing studio it's not good news so I try to my make my own small studio at home and continue making photographs.

Week 7
Food photography & Social Media
BA Culinary Art year 3

In week 7 we continue to work with photoshop and making photographs in the group at the studio. This week I learned more about composition, I saw the difference between making photos at home and in a professional studio.
Below I put two my photographs made at home one is a pomegranate(ISO 3200, F4.5, SS1/25) second onions (ISO3200, F4.5, SS 1/10), both were made in very high Iso 3200 and low shutter speed when I opened them in photoshop and enlarged them were very grainy.
Two more made in the studio we used canon 1200D on both pictures we can see spoons and spices composition, this time we freeze a salt, first was made on wooden board (ISO100, F11, SS1/250) second on a black stone(ISO100, F14, SS1/200)
Now I can compare images made at home and make at the studio.
Camera settings are completely opposite, Iso and exposure time.

Week 6
Food photography & Social Media
BA Culinary Art year 3

In week 6 I didn't feel well unfortunately and I missed that class. My colleagues passed me all necessary information. The half group worked in the studio making own composition and shooting photos, another part work in with photoshop or lightroom.

Below I attached the photograph I made at home, they are very good but I have to put more attention to composition.
They were made in my kitchen in artificial light. On the one, we can see a bowl of porridge with berries and banana. (ISO800, f4.0, ss1/30)
Second photography shows Rollmops, stuffed herring with red pepper, sea salt on aside. (ISO400, f3.5, ss 1/20)

Social Media
In week 5, we discussed different social media, such as Instagram, Facebook, whats up and much more.

Cooking is a very popular sector in this time, I think the one of the important factor promote is social media (culinary blogs, Instagram, pages) a lot of companies couldn’t even exist without it. Competition in the culinary business is huge at the moment. It's not a secret than we eat with our eyes, so Instagram and well-made photography is a powerful advertisement and help in promotion.

in week 5 I made a photo of the basket with garlic (ISO200, F4.5, SS1/25) and pasta composition in natural light (Iso 100, F5, SS1/250)

Photoshop and Lightroom
During these class I learned how photoshop and lightroom works,
photoshop and lightroom are softwares to editing photographs, has a wide variety of tools.
I prefer work with photoshop but my preferences can changes.
I know the basics of both softwares now and important thing is the picture must be made in RAW format. During last class we had a exercise to do, our lecturer sent us a photograph and we had to make a changes in photoshop.
Below I attached two images one original and second after changes I made in photoshop
I cropped in 4:3, changed brightness, darkness, shadow etc.
Those softwares helps better understand how the light work and give opportunity to play with pics.
I learned as well how correct save my job, which format use and what quality.
